Was Murray greater than Wawrinka during the Stanimal run?

His slam win in 14 was also more impressive. Beating Djoko at AO > beating him at FO. Beating Nadal at the AO ~ Beating Fed at FO.
Even though that would be agreed on I think most would say Wawrinka was better in RG 15 than AO 14.

Wawrinka was a phenom for a while there. It was something special to behold in a way that Murray never really was, to me anyway. Murray had sustained excellence but Stan was different, there was a sense that we were watching something unique unfold. And his game was so much more dramatic to watch. Of course the fact Stan matched up very well against Djokovic played into this too — I never really believed Murray would beat Djokovic in a big match, and on top of that the contest between the two was usually cagey rather than ballsy and that made for quite tedious viewing. Obviously this was not the case with the fire-breathing Stanovic matches. So Stan gets my vote here.
perfectly said because it aligns with most people's thoughts.

Or Djokovic had no trouble disposing of the players that straight-setted Murray in 2014 and 2015.
Murray is a worse match up on grass and goes to show he was lucky to not meet a better version of Murray in those tournaments. Not to mention the near escapes in 18/19 and the inflated 21/22 titles there. #luckovic

Murray as a mamas boy that needed a father to help him reach his full potential, which he never reached

Murray was 100% capable of dominating the big three, but he was a mental midget and squandered it all

Murray would have been a tough match on grass, sure. But while Federer beat Murray in straights in the SF in 2015, Djokovic beat Federer without that much trouble two days later. So acting like Murray would have won for sure is ridiculous. And even if it was a guarantee, you play the field, not one player. Federer would have likely lost to Nadal at RG 2009, but that does not make the title any less valid. ESPECIALLY since he beat the player that beat Nadal in straights, but even if Soderling had lost in the QF or SF it would be equally valid. You can only play who is in front of you.

Djokovic improved quite a bit in 2014/2015 compared to the previous years, but in the 2013 final in particular, he was especially flat. At least in 2012, he played well when he lost to Federer. So using one match as a sample to say Murray would always be the favorite vs Djokovic in grass is inaccurate, to say the least.

We can also say Murray in 2016 was lucky to avoid Djokovic given he had lost to him the previous two slams that year and he sure as hell would have preferred to face the players he did instead of Djokovic.

We know the Stanimal made his announcement at AO 2013 against Djokovic in the 4th round, we also know that the Stanimal and Murray basically killed each other off at RG 2017 semi.

But in between this period that was Stanimal, was Murray greater for you?

Wawrinka won three slams, and a masters, along with Davis Cup.

Murray won a slam, 6 masters, 1 Olympics, 1 WTF, 1 YE1, World number one, and single handily lead his country to Davis Cup.
Murray was a more consistent and better player on a week to week, match per match basis from AO 2013 through RG 2017

Sir ABM, OBE: 82% match win rate, 1.23 dominance ratio, 53.7% of total points won.
Stanimal: 72% match win rate, 1.13 dominance ratio, 52.1% of total points won

Stan led the H-H during this period 4-2 and the dominance ratio at 1.11

Murray had some good matches in that stretch such as his beatings of Djoko at the 2016 Tour finals, the 2015 Rome finals, and of course the 2013 Wimby finals.

That said, Stanimal could produce top end, inspiring tennis that Murray wasn’t capable of in the same way. The 2015 RG final is the best match played by either in this stretch, when Wawrinka blasted 57 winners past Djoko in Djoko’s second best season.
