It says I'm WAWA and beat the Djoker at the AO this year without an umpire.

LOL, "My buddy is the Goat". Seriously though they may have drifted apart (for lack of a better phrase) since the Olympic gold medal days, as evidenced by his recent (minor) criticisms of Fed for skipping the Davis cup.

That's pretty p!ss-poor English. I can't believe he wouldn't have had someone copyedit for him before committing it to his flesh for all time.

Then there's the whole psychological aspect to seeing the word "FAIL" jumping out at you every time you look down. Not how I would ever program myself.

He's Swiss and and Francophone, so why a tattoo in (illiterate) English? Only he knows why he decided to have this stupid gibberish tattooed on his forearm. He just lost 15 IQ points in my book.

Wow that's awesome. I had never heard this Samuel Beckett quote before I went on vacation to Ireland in September. This quote really stuck with me

It's a Samuel Beckett quote from "Worstward Ho".

Calling it illiterate or gibberish English is more than a tad ironic.

He should add Fail Once Again or Fail Forever. Tattoos are a sign of extreme insecurity, sheer stupidity & a follow the pack mentality.
These "words of wisdom" that people have inscribed on the skin are a contradiction because wise or smart people don't get them.
If you need a tattoo to remind yourself how to live your life it basically means you are f****** idiot.

The irony is it's from an Irishman, raised not on Gaelic tongue, who had to go to France to achieve most of his success in the literary/theatrical world.

As opposed to the extreme insecurity of judgmental nitwits who hide behind their computer to spout ignorant nonsense on the internet.

    Another win for irony.

"Ignorant nonsense" is what Stan has on his arm.

I guess some people can't handle the truth.

I used a mobile phone not a computer, and I was on the train in full view of many people, wasn't hiding.

Maybe some people actually like the way they look or they have a personal meaning behind it. You can't make a stupid blanket statement saying "everyone with tattoos" is doing it for one reason. You don't speak for everyone, just yourself. For someone that knows it all, it seems like you'd have something better to do with your time

I'd never get a tatoo, much less such a big one, but to each his own.

It is a great quote :)

    well, here's another post!

awesome point of view argument that this thread has started.

Stan is only stating and reinforcing what becomes apparent to every young tennis pro starting out: you will lose, it is how you deal with it.
If you wanted to be even more philosophical, it could be a life mantra.

    It means something to him.
    Anybody else...

This thread is hilarious. You have one person complaining about how the quote is terrible English. You have another complaining about how it is ignorant nonsense.

Except for the fact that it is a beautiful bit of prose from a great writer.

It's a great quote and a great tattoo. People who think having a tattoo in itself makes you <place favorite curse word> are the ones making a fool of themselves in this three. And this comes from someone who cannot even imagine ever getting a tattoo.

While some tattoos are impressive works of art, most don't look very good on the body. Eventually, all end up looking bad. And personal meaning? That's almost as ridiculous as enjoying what you are eating for breakfast so much that you wear the rest of it on your head all day. What in the world did the unfortunate souls do with their personal feelings before the latest tattoo fad?
