Many of you have been complaining about the lack of the top players lately, well 3 words, Venus is back, despite a slow start today. She is hitting in the high 30 range of winners all week long at the Family Circle Cup, even in her straight set win over Zvonareva.

Even though Venus won this week, compared to H-H, Clijsters, and her sister, I don't think she is a 'top' player.

I'd complain about Venus being a top player more than the lack of players at the top of women's tennis.

She may be a TOP player as long as the best players are injured. In fact, like or don't like it, you best learn to love it because she is the best player semi-healthy today. Btw, asking anyone that really knows. Is the WTA in trouble financially?

Why is everyone bashing Venus? Do you really think Kim and Justine are superior to her? I think not. Venus has kicked their tails more than they have beaten her ( I think they each have beaten her 1 time, but lost to her like 7 or 8 times). Venus has outclassed both Belgians. Sure Venus struggles to play her little sister, but that's the only acception I can see in your argument.

    are you kidding

Are you kiddingme? You think Venus Williams has out classed the Belgians? The Williams sisters are the most conceited players on tour today. In addition check your facts about Venus' win/loss record to the Belgians, I don't think that's accurate.

I can't speak so much for Clijsters because of her tendency to fold in late rounds of majors (see Wibledon 03 match against Venus, which I think she should have won), but I really think that H-H has gotten to be a better player than Venus since they have played last. Serena's results against Venus speak for themselves, but Clijsters has more game, but maybe not the head to beat Venus in the late rounds of a major. H-H and Clijsters both work much harder on their game than either of the Williams. But as a side note, watching H-H play I actually think she is the best player on tour due to her improvements. I really don't think that Venus would get close to taking a set of H-H at RG.

Well, Andy, you ruined a perfectly good argument by presenting facts. Shame on you!!! LOL!!! I'm hoping we see the Venus of the summers of 2000 and 2001, the best grass/hard court playing in the women's game I've ever seen.

Props to Venus. She came back, kicked butt, took care of her business, and is moving up again.

Women's tennis is sure a couple of dozen notches below the men's game, but that is because there are not enough players like Venus.

If there were twice as many Venus', Serenas, Kims, Justines, Lindseys, Monicas, and Jennifers, the game would have some talent depth and the next generation would be even better.

Let's not hate on the few women who do have some talent.

Sorry, but I have to disagree with you here. Kim does NOT have more game than Venus. They play similar but Venus finds ways to hit more winners and aces. Venus is so solid up at the net, one of the best volliers in the WTA IMO. They both have good forehands that tend to break down under pressure, and they both prefer to hit their backhands. They both also cover the court well when they are not injured, but Venus is so tall that it takes fewer strides. Speaking of the 03 Wimbledon semifinal...Kim won the 1st set WoW, that's it, and Venus had reinjured her stomach. Venus fought hard and won the next 2 sets convincingly 4-6,6-3,6-1. Venus killed her in that third set. That just goes to show you what a true champion Venus is. And IF Venus keeps moving in more frequently in her future matches, she'll dominate. Even Richard thinks so, he said that when Venus is confident and coming no one can touch her, not even Serena. And if Serena can't, than nor can the Belgians. Especially a sick Justine and a sore-wristed Kim and sore-knee Serena. Watch out, It's Venus turn to be where she can and should be: either no.1 in the world, or regarded as the best player (like she was in 00-01) until finally she became no.1 in early 02.
