How on earth did Dementieva get into the final with that serve?! When her toss is going haywire, why don't she just catch the ball and toss again? Unbelievable!!

Myskina certainly can hit winners, but in this match, all she need to do is consistently return the ball and wait for Dementieva to self destruct. I certainly don't blame anyone who consider this sort of tactic as pushing.

The way Myskina won the match (off another errant forehand from Dementieva), you can hardly tell it is a Grand Slam final! It's really a pitiful sight...

Frankly speaking, if you guys have saw this match, I think you won't be complaining about seeing more William Sisters in the final, whether you like their attitude or not.

Well, it was not a well played match... no question. I do think these women have much more talent than was displayed, simply because it was their first GS final and were very nervous. I don't know how much more entertaining another all-Williams final would have been... sure, the game would have been faster and we would at least see some decent serving... but probably just as much, if not more unforced errors. We'll see some better tennis when the Belgians come back.

It is not that Belgian finals were any better... It was a bagel last year was it?

In google do a search for:

    Elena Dementieva Shoulder injury

At least one of the articles explains why she has bad habits on her serve. There was a reason after all. Poor habits die slowly or not at all.

In the final, back to the wall, couldn't Dementia serve TWO times to the backhand? Myskina could STAND on one side of the service box and dare her to try a serve to the backhand. She served ONE 2nd serve to the BH in the Deuce court the whole match. Guess you run what you brung, eh?

    Damn, my girl lost!

It didn't look very good for her when she got upset during a pre match conference and said "I can't and I don't even know how to serve. The pressure is just too much for me"

I was very impressed by the way Myskina handled it, I was also feeling pretty upset for Elena (as her biggest fan would!)

Well there is always Wimbly I suppose, I still love ya Elena!! :)

Well, when the Belgians come back, there'll be a lot more depth in the women's field. With Serena, Venus and JenCap also playing again, plus the newfound confidence of the Russians... should make an exciting rest of the season.

Even though is was a boring final, let's give Myskina credit for her accomplishment.

Glad I was on-call today. Sounds like the match was a real stinker.

Looks like more of an accomplishment for Myskina on paper. Beating both Venus and Capriati.

They know each other tow well. There was a lack of stimulation, and too much nervousness from both players. The first sister slam a couple years ago was also lackluster. I don't expect men's final to be much better. The good thing is men's game has 5 sets. Players will have more time to adjust.

why can't the uglies and other US tubby women trim down a little, they all look like been eating out of Micky D's way too much.

No wonder Safin maintains that tennis is in big trouble, or as Dick Enberg would say "Oh, my". I'm sure any casual fan watching would be rolling in the floor watching this. At l east the horse race will be something to look forward to....and Smarty Jones only has one eye...

Agree with dozu about these two being easy on the eyes. Ever since Sampras retired I haven't bothered to watch much tennis anyway. Since all the men play like women now anyway (i.e. baseliners) I choose to watch the women, especially the likes of Myskina, Dementieva, Sharapova, Kirilenko, etc. I wish all the women players would take a page from these players--that you don't have to be built like a tank to play top level tennis (I'm talking to you Capriati, Pierce, Williams-->get off the creatine! Stop abusing drugs! You look gross!).

    Capriati, Pierce and Williams should

For all you guys b*i*t*c*h*i*n*g about the ugly women on the tour, why don't you post a picture of yourself so we can see how ugly and out of shape you are. Yeah. I didn't think so.

You guys are pitiful. A bunch of cowards who attack women who can't even respond back or defend themselves. Only really ugly guys who don't stand a chance with a pretty girl attack the appearance of women. So why don't you post pictures of yourself in your tennis attire so we can start threads about how ugly and gross you are.

I thought it was a well played match by Myskina. No matter what the score was, She earned it. I still respect Dementiava, because she can beat everyone here 0 and 0 no matter what.

It is a real shame that one of the biggest matches of the year was such a damp squid. Considering that some people only watch 2 or 3 tennis matches a year, this being one of them, they will get an unrealistically bad impression of women's tennis.

The women's game now finds itself in an injury dilema, the best players are either sidelined or trying to find their form. With Clijsters, Henin, Venus, Serena, Mauresmo, Davenport, the possible return of Seles, the rise of the Russians there is the potential there.

p.s. there have been loads of great women's matches, this year has not produced its fair share though but to call exciting women's tennis an oxymoron is, well, moronic.

    Joe Backhand,
I hear ya, but we don't get paid to play tennis. If you're a pro, there's no excuse to be fat (esp. in your 20's). Cap. & Pierce need to ease up on the twinkies (and I'm not attacking their beauty or lack thereof).

I would rather watch Demented-eva choke all over the court than Gaudio. At least Demented looks good in skirt. :->

    Stinkdyr,

Don't you know it my friend!! Elena is a right Choice Piece Of Crumpett!

I was excited about the final but she just didn't get it together.

Even though she got her *** kicked she is still my number 1!

"well, at least the girls are easy on the eyes..... I don't care about the quality of the tennis anyway.... " This pretty much tells it. I like to to see attractive girls as any other straight guy, but when I tune in to watch a grand slam, I want to see good TENNIS being played (I see much better matches in my local park by 5.0 players, than the pro womens). If they throw in an attractive body, that's a bonus. There's always the SEX channel for those with dozu's mentality. This one poster Liam's obsession with a tennis player is scary.

    lol Good one Joe

And which player is that? Ferrero will always be my favourite as he has been since 1999. I just think I enjoy tennis more if I want somebody to win and I have met both players and I know that they are top people. The game is lacking characters and Elena is funny on court and has a great tennis game to match.

If you have nobody to look up to and admire then the game will have an empty meaning for me.

Ferrero and Elena all the way!!

Whatever you say Joan Backhand. Anyway regarding the level of womens tennis, I don't think its fair to say they are equivalent to 5.0 male players. I've seen these women play up close and they would kill any mens club player and probably most mens college players too. My point is that I pity the likes of Pierce and Capriati who buy into this whole notion (hook, line and sinker) that you have to be big and muscular like Serena to be a great tennis player. On the mens side it seems like Agassi is doing the same. It seems like players who are insecure about their height want to compensate by making themselves wider and wider. I am utterly grossed out when I look at Capriati now--that's not a male or female, its a thing! In tennis there is a tradeoff between size and agility. Look at the best players now-- Federer, Henman, Coria, Ferrero. Hopefully, on the womens they will be Myskina, Sharapova, Dementieva and Hantuchova now.
