What are Benefits of 18G v. 17G

    I know that 17G will last longer but were are the pros and cons of using 18G synthetic over 17G synthetic..particularly Gosen micro

    Might be in my head but 18g feels better, and has a little bit more control; totally worth the loss in durability in my opinion.

    However, the benefits are not as pronounced as going from 16 ->17, and the durability drop is worse than the 16->17 transition.

    Something to keep in mind....

    I find that I get a tiny bit more spin, power and feel from 18g vs. 17g. I define "tiny" as noticeable during play but not so significant that your regular opponents would comment on your improved play. As you point out, the downside is less durability. Since I use an 18x20 pattern racket - which, in my opinion, allows 18g strings to last at least as long as 17g string in a more open pattern - I find the playability increase from 18g string worth any minimal durability decrease.

    In a word too, I just wish they made more 17L's...
