What changed with Thiem?

Was watching Thiem recently and it seems his ground strokes just don't have the penetration they used to. He used to blow through people with his ground strokes, but now struggles to generate that pace.

His movement seems to be ok. What changed for him after his injury? So that his groundies are less powerful?

Does he need to move away from an 18x20 racquet and get a little more free power?

Or is this all confidence?

(Yes I know he beat Wawrinka today)

He's said often that he just has never regained confidence in hitting his FH because of his wrist. He's afraid if he goes all out he will have a relapse with significant pain.

He is just slightly worse in almost every department. The only exception is his backhand, because it is still top tier shot. But his serve is a little bit worse, his movement, slice also worse. Forehand is miles away where it has been. Sometimes tiny changes make huge differences.

It is such a shame, because he was so ****ing epic during his peak years. The only player besides Humbalito who was incredibly exciting to watch and i was willing to watch all his matches very late.

What changed with Del Potro? It's the wrist injury. He never got his confidence back. It is also the effect of US Open win. He got complacent. And the newer players caught up.
