I'm thinking about stringing some gut, and wonder what you think would be a good string for the crosses---I'm assuming there will be less tension loss with the gut mains, more for the synthetic crosses---but what do you like to use?

depends on what sort of feel and power level you wish to acheive..maybe you can start and tell us what you are looking to accomplish first and why you are switching to gut hybrd, and we can better help you

I want to add some power. I've got a Klippermate and I'm a bit timid about stringing gut in general, and doing crosses is a bit intimidating. Since gut doesn't lose tension as easily as other string types, I"m guessing I would want to find a synthetic string with minimal tension loss. But power's the reason.

Max in this case I would recommend Klip Excellerator in the crosses which is what I use with Klip Legend mains. lots of power. lots of control. Klip prepackages this combination <you would have to look up what it is called>. It's also easier weaving crosses with a synthetc than using gut crosses..make sure you wax the mains both sides before running your crosses and gentle prestretch on the Legend but a vigourous one on the excellerator will help w. tension loss. for a lower cost, stick psg duraflex in there or og sheep micro. take your time and be mindful of kinks especially near the grommets and you'll be fine.

I can also recommend the Klip prepackaged hybrids. If you like something firmer, the Adrenalin is a great combination. You can string it either way, poly mains/gut crosses or gut mains/poly crosses.

Klip Screamer is an excellent gut hybrid string.

If you're looking to add a little power, I'd string the crosses with whatever you're using now. I'd string the gut at the same tension you normally use and, if it's a synthetic you now use, I'd drop the tension in the crosses 3#.

My fav cross for a while now is Gosen JC (Jim Courier) 16 -- they don't make 17 any more -- which I string at the same tension as the NG mains (VS or BDE). It provides a slightly firmer stringbed than all-NG or NG + Bab Conquest or NG + Gamma TNT (which I've also used). All these combos have been very long-lasting and great-playing.

    Good luck.
