Hi, a friend of mine brought his racket to me to restring it, when i took a clser look i find out that the guy that didi the last stringjob use an starting not on the mains (see pic). My question is, did he started the mains from the side of the racket?, if so how did he do to string the main where the starting knot is anchored? How did he tension the knot? My guess is that he strung the three first mains from that side and then tension. Is this ok to do it?.

Please let me know wht do you think. thanks

I can't really tell since i've never done a PDR before..but those knots look like CRAP!

I might be wrong on this...but if you use a starting clamp for the crosses I think you can tie off with a DHH when you're done? I never use a starting clamp because I don't have one.

um.... I only see three "knots"... Did he tie off on the outside of the frame?

I wouldn't pay for a job like that...

Oh and cut the strings out.

Wow. Even for me, a guy who doesn't really care about looks, that is really bad. Hope the frame is ok. Tha king of knot in theory would put more stress on the grommets.

I think I see the fourth one on 10T (left), right where it’s supposed to be.

Looks like a normal two-piece job with all four knots in the right place (mains tied at 6T, crosses tied at 7H and 10T), although two of the knots appear to look like crap.

When you cut the strings, you should be able to tell better which strings the knots are at the end of (mains, crosses, etc.).

The knots are where they are suppose to be, the thing is that one of "tie off" knots, the ugly one, is a starting knot, so how this guy did to put a starting knot as a tie off. or did he just start stringing the mains from the side of the racket.

Dont worry about the racket, i already cut the strings and restringit. ;)

    Thanks for the replies

Never string like that. Puts way too much stress on the frame/grommets.

woa that is a bad stringjob, however, nobody has answered my original question, how did this guy strung the mains with a starting knot and a tie off?

The Babolat website says that's how to string 'em. Check Rod dick's racket close up from the tourney last week

The first racket that I ever strung looked like that. Maybe even worse. Then I had to tie off the crosses outside the frame.

Other than the 2 knots that have slipped apart, the stringjob has followed the correct pattern. It's hard to tell if he used a starting knot or backtracked and tied off with a normal, double half-hitch after usine a starting clamp. I'd live with it. The knots, if they don't slip, are ugly, but they've done their job.
