What Fed needs to do next

He has achieved his major goal of 14 and all 4. now, in order to keep him motivated, he needs to set a new goal. My list for him is here, from top priority to low.

1. Get back Wimbledon crown
2. Win this year's USO to win 6 in a row.
3. Improve his Nadal H2H record in GS.
4. Beat Nadal in French Open.
5. Get at least 7 Wimbledon to equal or pass Sampras
6. Win another French Open to prove the doubters wrong.

He needs goals to keep going. If he relax too much now, he could probably slip. This happens to sportsmen. Pressure keeps people going, so there must be some pressure for him.

no. improving his record against Nadal in GS is important also.
His record there has been poor so far. if they don't meet, it's ok. if they do meet, he has to prove he can beat Nadal.

No he really doesn't, maybe Nadal and Fed should concentrate on beating Hrbaty?

I refuse to let a losing record to one particular player be used as a blemish on one of the greatest careers in the history of the sport

a losing record against a nobody like hrbaty is no problem.

a bad losing record against another great player is a problem. if don't believe, ask agassi.

I don't think Fed is concentrating much on non-slam events. So I'd expect him to have the similar types of losses as he had in the past year.

The whole "improving his h2h against nadal" thing is pretty much the effect of him continuing to win grandslams...so anyone to say that him focusing on how to beat nadal and improving that H2H is not necessary is missing the true benefit of doing so. he will continue to have to go through nadal in grandslams, and learning how to beat him will be needed in order to complete those other "necessary" goals.

I disagree. I think Nadal is the worst matchup possible for Federer plus he is mentally even tougher, especially in finals. Federer has won their last meeting, and while it wasn't a GS final, it was a final alright. I think Fed needs to concentrate on numbers and not on Nadal.

Don't worry, he will beat Nadal when they meet next time, even if that may be until next FO. I doubt that Nadal will get to the final until the 2010 FO final.

Of course, I can be wrong and I won't be surprised if Toni Nadal is trying to trick everyone into thinking that his nephew is having injury-issues. They have been doing this for, uh, forever. Nadal is probably hiding from the press right now because he knows that they will barrage him with ton of questions about the shocking FO loss and and how he will respond at Wimbledon, etc. But you have to think the loss have to shatter his invincibility quite a bit though. But let's see how he'll respond.

Other then that, I am doubtful that Nadal is really injured at all. Fed said it best today, that he played the guy so much that he himself doesn't even know when or if the guy is actually injured and he expected to see Nadal at Wimbledon this year.

I myself hope Fed and Nadal both gets to the final at W so that Fed can beat his brain out. For some reason, I just enjoy watching Fed kick the SH*T out of Nadal more than any other players, the next would be Murray because I hate his pushing tennis more than Nadal's style, just a little more.
