I liked the way they both handled the situation. Andy was obviously upset because some arshole calls out in the middle of a huge point, that obviously upsets his play on the ball. With Regard to Roger, I think he had plenty to be jacked up about as well, trying to fight his way into a fifth set and you've got an opponent who is statistically winning about every area of the match and is now slowing down youre momentum. I'd tell him to shut up too. But hey, they both understand and obviously both understand the competitive side of one on one sports. Thats why theres no need for either of them to cry about it in presser. Non-Issue!

He probably pulled off a Kevin Garnett and said that Kim Sears tastes like Honey Nut Cheerios and wished Andy's Mum happy Mother's Day.

He didnt yell at Murray, he was yelling at himself saying he needed to look at Murray's movement before hitting the ball.

Didn't seem to be what he said. Certainly not at the press conference.

At least try to be original...I've already heard this joke in regards to the Federer situation.

As much as Roger respects the younger group, I still think he gets a bit tired of some of the crap they try to pull. There's shady MTO's, Murray pretending he hurt himself, or whatever else. I haven't watched the full match, but I expect some frustration with the antics just boiled over.

Isn't Fed a little old to be having those young model-like groupies? Fed looks like his dad now.. OLD with his elderly face.

He looks very mature - very appropriate for someone good enough to send Sampras' legacy to irrelevance.

did anyone see at the start of the semi on eurosport that an australian tv had positioned one of those remote swivel cameras near where mirka and co were sitting in the players box...

but they wernt happen with being zoo exhibits..and the bloke next to mirka threw a jacket over the camera and covered it,

then it was moving its head around still even though it was now covered, and it looked like a ghost :)..whoooooooo,

result was no intrusion into mirka-land, but much laughing at the now spooky looking jacket covered camera.

to be fair, murray still swears a lot after losing points... it's just that Federer "got up in his grill" with his venting...

As a Federer fan, I am very disappointed and find his behaviour rather appalling. I am starting to lose respect for Roger as a player.

To bad ESPN had to edit the video of the match. I would love to see the live feed unedited. I have to search some foreign sites to see if I can watch this particular moment and get the 10-15 second version.

This is very interesting to watch it complete!

1981 Masters against McEnroe.....Borg lost his cool.

Edberg lost his cool in some matches as well. He got pissed at an Umpire before because of a call that was against him.

Edberg, Federer, Borg, Sampras are as cool as they come.....but they are human too. They do show anger, frustration and in the heat of the moment they do some stupid things.

It just that they do it a lot less than others....

what do you mean "you guys"? don't lump me up with the fanbois please.

i have no issues with anything that either player did. federer is one of my favourite players and i picked murray to win the entire tournament weeks ago. he was the better player on the day and i like what he has done over the past two years with his game and mentality.

Look, I'm pretty sure there's quite a bit of passive-aggressive gamesmanship and cross-net banter between two great players during a hard-fought closely matched contest which both are desperate to win. Neither player rarely takes it personally and usually just shrugs it off (as Murray did) or gives back as good as he gets. Once the match is over, they are good friends again or at least friendly rivals.

I'm pretty sure it goes on in all sports!

In ESPN GO I can watch 2 feeds one in spanish and one in english, in the spanish one they show that partof the game from the side but only in a repetition you get to see fed cursing, in that one it you can think that he said that to the public behind murray because he didn't want to start the point until everyone was seated, and in one shot the public from there seemed to cal the ball out. In the american version you can see the point from behind federer and see that he is looking at murray when he says it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sDljCVlov9c minute 58. I think he was upset that every line murray would take a milisecond waiting for a bad call, thats what he wanted him to stop doing.

easy to be a good sport while you're collecting trophies and winner's checks. it's a bit tougher when things are less rosy, as we saw against murray

So, where's the outrage about Federer getting special treatment, etc? :)

It's gamesmanship if he was trying to rattle Murray. Murray has said he thinks gamesmanship is just fine anyway.

I don't think gamesmanship is equivalent to bad sportsmanship.

If a tennis ball is hit hard enough and you get clocked in the head with it, you're more than probable to get a concussion. Don't be stupid. As for not coming to the net at least a handful of times in a match, that's basically impossible even these days. Anyway it's not that important. All I'm saying is Murray has become a little too fixated on going at the body when he has another (sometimes easier) shot. I really don't have much problem with what either player did here though.

I don't mean to be part of the grammar police here, but it's Stefan Edberg, not "Stephan." More than the above poster has made that mistake in this thread. Almost as bad is when people spell Peyton Manning's name with an A. (i.e Payton.) Just gets on my nerves.

Yup, Roger has always called your boy Roddick a "great guy" despite his fratboy atitude on the court. Probably was modeling himself after Roddick. Federer's moment of heat was a near spitting image of Roddick's beratement of Tsonga in their 2007 AO match, except Roddick's tirade was much worse, of course.

I don't think it's a big deal what Fed did, but unlike it, a body shot is perfectly legitimate. Not really the same.

This is Bjorn Borg "losing his cool" at the Masters against McEnroe. McEnroe later threw a point because of a particularly bad call that went against Borg. McEnroe was usually on his very best behavior vs. Borg because he had so much respect for him (plus his antics would look really silly in contrast to the stoic Borg.)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVwPAOpFweY

(Thanks Krosero for the Video, "Borg potesting a point, McEnroe giving one away"). Watch Borg glaring at the umpire while he is given point penalties at a critical stage of that match that Borg went on to win. Borg went 5-0 versus McEnroe, Connors, and Lendl at the year end Masters Cup tourneys at MSG to win both the '79 and '80 events played in Jan. 80 and Jan. 81 respectively on fast indoor carpet at MSG. This incident was stunning because it was so unlike Borg to react this way, even though he was a hothead when he was much younger (the influence of Rod Laver on him, the fact that he was suspended from his club as a teenager caused him to become a player that was known as the "Iceman".) He won the Tour sportsmanship award I believe after the 1980 season. During a match in Memphis early in the career, when McEnroe was basically losing it, Borg called him up to the net for a chat. McEnroe recalls that he was thinking "oh no, this is not good" basically, but Borg quietly just told him, "look John it's just a tennis match, relax...". McEnroe said he really appreciated that from Borg and it really helped him calm down a bit during later matches.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yyuiEzBb7hk

(See Borg vs. Lendl in the Jan. 81 Masters final ('80 year end event)
