I am only 5'11 which is barely above average these days.

What is it like if you are 6'4 or 6'5? Even taller?

Feet hang off the bed, clothes that fit are hard to find, head hits light fixtures, small cars are uncomfortable, everyone asks "did you play basketball", easy to spot in a crowd....

I'm 6'4". Some cars are difficult to drive, showers in many hotel rooms hit me in the stomach. You can usually see over people in a crowd, which is nice. Airplanes are the worst.

My dad is 6'7", and he has a hard time finding good clothes, cars, etc...It seems like even that little bit of difference in height makes it much much harder.

I'm 6'4'. I wear a size 15 shoe, so in my case, my difficulty is finding shoes that fit and within budget (in Argentina, most brands don't usually carry any bigger than 12).

    Clothing, not so much.

I do get stared a lot when I walk down the street, but probably since the average male is 5'8, 5'9''. I hit my head with fixtures, true.

Other than that, I wouldn't be any smaller, if I had to choose :)

    Tall.
YaoMing is tall, at 7'6". Wilt the Stilt. Kareem Lew Alcindor, Manute Bol.
Mid 6's is taller than average, but not tall.
Depends on the field. I can walk thru Tijuana or Chungking and be a giraffe compared to everyone else, at 5'11".
I was the shortest guy on the varsity basketball team in high school by 6".
I can go to Swaziland and be the tallest (compared to pigmy's) or the shortest (compared to Watusi's) within 300 miles.

    I'm 6'5".

    - Most sweaters are too short in the midsection.
    - Airplanes are awful unless it's an exit aisle.
    - Everyone assumes you played basketball or football.
    - Showers must have a tall head.
    - No bed can have a footboard.

    However,

    - I can see things easily in a crowd.
    - Serving came easily to me.
    - When walking in a crowded place people tend to get out of the way.

Ahem... Pigmies and Watusi live in central Africa, while Swaziland is southern Africa...
Otherwise, I completly agree, on the perspective comments. At 6' I'm above average in Vancouver and below average in Belgrade.

I know a tall guy like that. He always looks grim and rarely speaks. He actually looks like he did play something in hs/college.

Never could convince my bud, SteveElbs, to take up tennis. He was a all state RiordanHigh (SanFrancisoCatholic) power forward, and forward for our 3 on 3 city team later. Decent surfer, took foreever to stand up.
He thought tennis was too sissy to start again at 25.
Another windsurf bud, Dave, at 6'7", had the weakest serves I'd ever seen for a 4.0 level player. Seemed every loopy forehand I hit at him bounced around thigh high to him.
Both slouched, not being comfortable with their height. Ida killed to be that tall in college.

I can understand about the clothing. I'm 5'8 and even xs clothing seems to be too long in the arms! I can imagine being tall brings the opposite problem.

Tough if you are in Asia, beds too short, keep hitting your head, and scrape your knees in buses, long-distance flights. Inter-continental flights are the worst.

otoh, somehow everyone else is pretty envious. However, the current generation is pretty tall. I got two nephs who've suddenly shot up and gone beyond me. p.s. 6'3" here.

Low flying planes are quite a risk .. I have to wear a hat with flashing lights. Don't get me started on pigeons, but the perks include peeping into people's second floor bedroom windows while walking by.

Yep. The average here is..... around 1.79 I would say. And from 1.90 on you're consider very tall.

I'm 6'3" size 14 shoe. I don't really consider that tall-tall, but just somewhat tall. Most of my male friends are around my height and peers at college were about the same; so I only feel tall sometimes amongst the general population, but I'm also a big guy, football player like (Tsonga); I think if you're thick and broad you don't seem as tall as lankier people (Monfils) for example.

There are some advantages; some women do prefer taller guys, but there are disadvantages. Expensive and limited shoes being the worse. You also have to be careful that you do not unintentionally intimidate other people. Shorter guys tend to develop a Napoleon complex when you are around them...

Hahaha, yeah, it does. I can palm a basketball, but I don't have gigantic hands. I'd say they're average for my size. The iPhone is small but not too small, I don't have fat fingers, so it's not an issue there.

I could use any phone size wise, but I like the way the iP5 fits in my pocket.

I read your post above, the size 14 shoe is a killer. Most brands/stores carry everything in their line up to size 13, and then 14+ is hard to find. I'm a size 13, so I'm right at that cut off which is helpful. I am also a bigger guy naturally, and I agree that it's the lanky, tiny guys that look taller than bigger, more muscular guys.

Yea, it seems like 14 is more so becoming the cut off point (its getting better). I remember when 12 was the cut off, LOL...

Forgot to mention that at the movies, sometimes ur knees start to ache. I search for theaters that offer greater leg room. Economy class while flying is a killer!

I'm a bloody size 15. It's a nightmare finding shoes in Argentina, where everyone seems to wear, on average, a size 10.5 tops.

Shoes are getting better it seems...Hopefully that trend continues for all the people out there that wear 14+.

Movie seats are a challenge. I have started going pretty much exclusively to a theater that has large, reclining seats with tons of leg room. It's ~$3-5 more per ticket, but well worth it for a two hour movie.
