You got there before me.
I was just seeing some videos on youtube to notice how he fared at match points down in his recent losses.
Here are a few videos which I could pick out :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YtOQa5CqaGQ see 1:45 here, loss to ferrer at WTF 2011, going for broke at mp
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvVQ-Yy7Nbg , see 5:45 here, loss to murray at dubai 2012, going for broke at mp
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5e5nV2XQ1CE , see 2:00, loss to tipsy at WTF 2011, going for broke again when mp down
So I guess his strategy at match points is swing as hard as you can on match points and hope it lands in?
It's just a fallacy. He does it on all matchpoints, but we only remember those he managed to come back from.
Quite amazingly, he manages to pull it off almost everytime at slams
I just want to highlight as well, those are three of the friendliest handshakes I've ever seen 8)
To test your faith!
Always gracious in defeat, unlike the other guys in the Top 3/4
I'm sorry but he isn't going for broke. It's obvious at some of these ATP events, he just doesn't care at all if he loses/wins. Only in the Grand Slams he becomes a juggernaut because lets face it, winning a Grand Slam means a hell of a lot more than some stupid ATP event.
By the way, this isn't a rant at you, just saying the obvious lol.
great post. I also agree that his attitude to losing has made him able to handle these situations, and if he loses it's probably because he's not playing well enough, not because he chokes.
I think a few years of more often than not, finishing 3rd best to Fedal gave him a more philisophical approach tothe game.
So World Tour Finals (WTF) is a stupid ATP event, yea right
1 match point Djokovic clip the line twice, the Smash was too close for comfort......Tsonga was just that close.
More lucky than clutch.
OK I should rephrase what I was trying to point out. End of last year, Novak was more or less shattered and just tried to be competitive than win but because he's soo good, he can win while being average. This year already you can clearly see if he's not 100% on it, focused etc... he'll compete but wont try very hard to. Novak knows by reaching semis/finals of these ATP events, he's not losing many ranking points and he can do that by just being average to good so why waste soo much energy for them while you can save what you got for the Slams, especially with the Olympics going on this year. Don't forget, the Slams are where you can get a big bulk of these ranking points and he knows this.
Pretty smart on him I say and because of this, he'll have a better second half of the season as he will be relatively fresh compared to last year.
He just goes into DGAF (don't give a f**k) mode and his true ability takes over.
And this is why I love it when Djoker beats Fed and Nadal because it affects them PERSONALLY....especially Fed. That's why Federer seems to eager to beat Djoker, as if to put him in his place or something. I really hope Djoker beats Federer this time around.
Separate names with a comma.
