The scene in Blazing Saddles where they approach the tollbooth in the middle of the desert is so funny the first time you watch the movie.

I watch a lot of Russian, French, Danish, Swedish, and Japanese films, but there are very few great comedic films that I can think of from these countries. America and England seem to make the best comedies, in my opinion. Of English speaking countries, I would have thought there would be more great comedies from Ireland.

Can anyone suggest any great comedies from Europe or Asia? There must be some films worth mentioning in this thread.

Many of my favourite comedies have already been mentioned, so I looked at my DVD collection to find some films that I don't think have been mentioned. "Pulp Fiction," "Overnight" (an accidental comedy), "Boogie Nights," and "A Fish Called Wanda" were all pretty funny to me.

??Pulp Fiction is a comedy??

Although the "Do they speak English in What?" scene is pretty funny (and one of the best in movie history).

I am suprised no one mentioned about Election ( 1999, Reese Witherspoon) except me. It was so funny. I could relate to the story. I guess every body has different taste. Someone said "Fantastic mr. Fox" was funny so I saw the other night. It wasn't funny but watchable.

Plenty of good ones here as well as plenty of great ones. Here's one I didn't see:

Death at a Funeral. British version and I believe the original.

"The Kingdom" (Lars Von Trier}, "Trainspotting," "Wag the Dog," and "Diner" were pretty funny, though not classified as comedies. "The Commitments" and "Dazed and Confused" are pretty good comedies that I don't think have been mentioned. Most of the recent good comedies seem to have been mentioned.
