Just wondering how long non-gut strings would last sitting on the shelf in the package? I would think they would get dry and brittle at some point.

Not as long as the shelf life of twinkies. ;)

If stored out of sunlight and out of extreme temperatures, the strings will outlive you and me.

These strings will last a long time, especially in a airtight bag. If I had some synthetic strings in my house, they wouldn't outlive me. Right before I die, I would destroy them and say"I told you these strings would never outlive me!"

Not if you had a heart attack the moment before you lit the match.

A friend of mine just strung up a set of Imperial natural gut that was sitting in a guy's car for almost 20 years. It's still playing fine after 3 months. I'm pretty sure it was sealed in plastic all those years.

Forget the string. I can afford new string. What kind of car is your friend driving ;-)

I know already that you won't believe me, but that set of string was sitting in a Porsche 911 for 10 years, and in an Audi for at least 8. The owner was just a lazy guy who didn't play much, but he always used natural gut, which never broke on him.
Now I have to ask him if that set of gut was really sealed all that time....
