Half an ounce of Kahlua, half an ounce of vodka, coke and topped with milk or cream - served over ice in a tall glass with a cherry to garnish.

^^^That's actually considered a highball (take it from one who has worked in a bar and lounges).

    From Wiki:

A cocktail is a style of mixed drink. However, not all mixed drinks are cocktails. A cocktail usually contains one or more types of liquor and flavorings and one or more liqueurs, fruit juices, sauces, honey, milk, cream or spices, etc.

Highball (cocktail), a style of alcoholic mixed drink, in which one spirit is mixed with one mixer

By the way, as an ethnic Tatar, Safin is ethnically Eurasian (in case anyone is still confused).

Nothing beats a very dry gin martini -- Tanqueray or Beefeater will do the job. A good gin martini needs to be strong with the juniper bite. Bombay Sapphire is a nice gin, but is too complex for a good martini.

A very dry Stolichnaya martini is a good change of pace. It is best enjoyed when not sipped from Marat Safin's shoes as preferred by SoBad.

I also enjoy a quality single malt Irish whiskey with a splash of water. I prefer to avoid the peat smoke of a Scotch whisky, though a basic Chivas can be quite enjoyable. My apologies to CC for playing fast and loose with the definition of a cocktail.

I know, eh? A pure genius that's who I say. We know how to kick it the right way up here. :)

OMG Mike!! **twitches a little and annoyed that the facial tic has resurfaced**.

Technically, a martini is a cocktail although I personally feel it deserves its own category - like the HIGHBALL you mentioned!!! ;)

    Gin and Tonic

Margarita ( Needs to be real though, fresh lime juice, good tequila, and some Cointreu. No syrupy seet and sour mix )

Melon ball: Pineapple juice, Midori, and vodka

White Russian are hard to beat!

    a Shandy

I'm really just a "beer" guy.

However - I'm not sure this really counts as a cocktail, but a SHANDY is a dark, heavy beer mixed with just a bit of 7-up.

It takes the "bite" off the dark beer and actually makes it pretty pleasant.

A Ketel One martini with three olives.

I actually tell the bartender/waiter/waitress that I want three olives because sometimes they'll just give you two or maybe (if they're really stingy) only one. :(

I have started to drink a "20th Century" though. They're really good.

Oh, and a Vesper martini since I'm a James Bond junkie. Although most places will just give you a weird look if you order it. :-?
