What level are these players?
i am no expert in ntrp, but I reckon the guy in the blue and the guy in the grey are better than 3.0
yellow and the girl, probs 3.0 but I only watched a few points..
They aren't looking at their smartphones while playing. Can't really be Korea.
If they were playing Minecraft, it looks like they would be on level 17.
they are 3.0s. one of the girls there has some good pace, so she's in the upper limits of the 3.0 world, but yeah, 3.0s.
Lol I wasn't sure if I was seeing things but I swear one of those players over there is a female. Or a really feminine guy.
The first 2 guys have the best 3.0 serves in the world.
they look like 3.5 to 4.0 players. their volleys are horrendous and some of their shots are awkward but serving and groundies look like 3.5 - 4.0 range.
and as sumo says -- just with their serve alone they are at least 3.5 and likely a bit higher.
** looking some more i think the guy in blue shirt is probably higher - and possibly a 4.5 or higher just effing around with his friends. **
That's what I thought lol.
But let's wait for Bud to be sure.
Middling 3.5 with some strong shots, and some weak technique.
Girl is the weakest, so she's also a 3.5
Honestly they all look like 4.0's to me.
Even the girl looks like a 4.0 (albeit a womens 4.0 not a mens)
They seem to be having a fun match, so I think they are not playing quite the same way they would if this were a tournament or more serious match.
They are not close to any kind of 4.0 unless you include bump ups from a weak area.
No second serves, no volleys, no placement, inconsistent with pace, poor court coverage, bad movement.
The girl CAN be 4.0 women, but that would equate to 3.2 mens.
Are people watching the same video?
In the one I saw, the guys in the blue and gray seemed to be a level above the other players. The NTRP 3.0 thing is just confusing, especially if you've ever watched 3.0s play.
The match didn't look very serious. I don't think I saw a decent volley in any of the parts I watched.
guy in blue is not going hard. I bet he can hit.
I think you're confusing their relaxed playing for lack of ability ... none of them are really trying to play hard (except the girl) so you have to look at other things.
Out of the 3 guys
The one playing with the girl is a 4.0 easy
The taller of the other 2 is borderline 3.5/4.0 in my opinion
And the shorter one looks like a mid to high 3.5 to me but no lower.
He can hit, and he seems to have good footwork and a solid serve as well. No way he's a 3.0, not even close. I don't think the others are either.
No lower than 3.5, serve technique is too good. Most people playing 3.5 still frying pan forehand serve.
My guess would be lower level 4.0. You have to remember how bad people look on video.
3.0 from what I've seen is almost beginner level.
Maybe we can look these people up and find out more about them. There can't be that many Koreans named Park and Kim.
yes only about half the country..
they are pretty good IMO. 4.0 and up I'd say. serves are quality for rec.
He was joking.
The serves weren't 3.0 that's for sure.
I think it's good play. At least 3.5 if not the guys are 4.0. The girl is the lowest level out of them all as she dumps a lot of easy shots, but I've definitely seen worse!
Blue and grey shirted players are clearly much better. The bloke in yellow sticks his racquet in the air to volley and the girl just can't handle any pace. I don't assign NTRP ratings to people or myself since I think they're worthless unless you're playing in a league, so I won't give you one. I will say, however, that the teams are properly balanced like a 4.0 and a 3.0 playing 7.0 dubs against another team. As to what level to split, you can choose.
watch the point at 4:12. The blue dude is around 3.5 to 4.0 for sure. He's just messing around with his peers. He actually looks like he has the same serve as me. No knee bend lol.
Edit: They all actually look pretty good. Yellow is the slower one but thats really it. They take risks on a few shots and can move the ball around. Relative control over depth and relative control over height. Thats FYB's 4D tennis if I ever saw it =p.
In the beginning, they seem just effing around but once you go past 10 minute park, they seem to play better.
fast forward to 14 minutes or so. you can see that the blue shirt and far gray shirt are both 4.0-4.5 players. they are both effing around and having fun so their partners (both 3.0 to 3.5 at best range) can have fun too.
it would not suprise me if blue/gray shirts are both college players.
^^^The grey shirted one, although with a big serve, has horrendous consistency on it. College level, I think not. Even really good players when they're fooling around show that they're really good and just fooling around. You can't forget how to do things correctly, you can just choose not to use much effort. I still say the blue and grey are a level up, but no, not college level.
Thank you for this.
ok. fine. korean club tennis. at the equivalent of a division III school. gangnam style.
Short Guy Yellow Shirt: High 3.0 ... but is trying really hard.
Grey Shirt: Middle 3.5 ... thinks he is better than he really is.
Girl in yellow shorts: High 3.5. Solid ... I would take her in 8.0 mixed for sure.
Blue Shirt: Guy has played a lot and is definitely messing around ... High 4.0 for sure ... maybe high 4.5 if he really tries.
blue serve is 4.5 I think. he can even do a kicker and he seems like he is only going like 70%. he could probably serve a lot faster. for the others I didn't last long enough into the vid
The guy in blue is definitely an advanced player. He could be as high as a 4.5. It's laughable that some people have rated him a 3.5 or less. Based on this video, I don't know of any 3.5's that can hit like that, sorry. He serves really well and he has a strong, consistent forehand. He clobbered some hard serves back from the guy in grey, who I believe is a solid 4.0. The girl hits some good ground strokes at times, but she has a VERY weak serve. It's basically a beginner's serve. The guy in yellow looks like a 3.5.
"what level are these players"
Is that individual or as a group.
Blue guy is best for sure, not nearly 4.5, but has all the shots most 4.0's have, unless YOU are weak and push.
If that girl was on my team, there's no way I'd play the net when she served. I've played mixed doubles a few times with women that served at that pace. It wasn't pretty. lol
..and she should stay back when you are at the baseline. Her volley skills are none.
ah I only watched the first minute or before.
Knew his technique was too good. Guy in the blue is pretty damn good, even just toying around you can tell.
Ah, those volleys made me cringe....
blue is a solid 4.0 he's the best player of the lot
girl is a 3
yellow is a 3.5
last guy is 3.5-4
Modern players, below 4.5 seldom have textbook volleys and good groundies with footwork. It's one or the other.
I seem to know lots of players with topspin strokes, good looking serves, some volleys, and they play 3.5 because they just don't concentrate and take the game seriously.
Heck, I"m a barely 4.0 with good looking strokes, volleys, overheads, half volleys, and serve, but still play 4.0.
I think you guys should watch the whole video and decide, obiviously they are not playing serious and just toy around, so of course there would be some 3.0errors.If you finish the whole video you would see some really nice shots.
blue: decent 4.0 or 4.5
yellow: strong 3.5 or weak 4.0
girl: 4.0 in women
The guy playing with the girl is 3.5-4.0 range.
The other 3 are 3.0-3.5 range.
It is no coincidence that the blue and grey shirted players are split between teams. They are both 4.0 level at least. It's obvious they are not playing seriously, but that they both possess serious pace off of both wings when they feel like it. 3.5 players do not have this unless they simply smack balls for no reason. They're out there having fun with their friends who aren't as high level.
The girl has a 2.5 level serve but her groundstrokes are better than 3.0. Her volleys are 3.0. The guy in blue is at least 4.0 and doesn't look like he is really trying. The other two look around 3.5ish. Hard to rate people based on social matches where there are widely different levels and the better players are not going all out.
The fact that there is another video labeled "4.0 doubles" and has the same players names tagged from the original video tells you the blue and gray shirt are much better than they appear. Not to mention, both are serving pretty hard and cracking returns back at each other. 3.0 or 3.5 my ass.
Video for reference.
I agree on the volleys. Biggest problem on the problem list.
The guy on the far side with the brown shirt to me has the best volleys of the lot. The tall guy, seems to contact late on serve. All of them do not seem to understand doubles that well, but they do not seem worse than most younger kids i've seen. Their groundstrokes stand out more than the rest of their game.
I'm not sure that I agree that the tall guy is necc that much better in the vid. Even fooling around can be done well. Seems as if there are certain bad habits like dropping the wrist a lot on the volleys. His serve has potential though. The guy in the brown shirt impressed me the most.
Separate names with a comma.
