I think the level correlates with the number of consecutive shots they could make in a point. So in this case, 3.0.

Only saw a few points but probably 5.0. Could be higher. Both guys are very fit.

The average number of shots per point in the ATP is less than 3.

Probably about 5.0 or 5.5 in the US. ITN ratings don't transfer very well in real life.

No higher than 4.5 (US). Way too many wildly unforced errors to be any higher than that. They lack the patience and discipline to develop the point and the skill to recognize a true opportunity ball. The kids that I watched last weekend at a USTA nationals tourney could easily beat them. The strokes certainly look impressive on the surface (oh, look how hard they hit!) but they're just not consistent enough to be higher than 4.5 (there goes another easy shot long or into the net).

I am surprise you guys rate them at 5.0. I am no expert but would guess they are 4.0-4.5.

My guess would be Higher end 4.5. Serve and a few wild errors make me think 5.0 would be a stretch. Very entertaining nonetheless.

They are among better 4.5 players in my opinion. If they improve their consistency, they would do ok in a 5.0 league.

This doesn't look like the 5.0 tennis in my area but they are really good. They are really attacking each-others serves I like it. They could self rate at 4.0 get bumped up at the end of one season and be competitive at 4.5

The grey shirt guys bio says he has an ITN rating of 4 ... which would correspond to a 4.5 according to the ITN chart.

I would say that either of these guys would have no problem finding a 4.5 team that would take them ... so all of this makes them at least a 4.5 maybe a low 5.0.

    Are we still playing?

5.0 or so I'd guess. They're hitting hard, form is good, but not perfect. To anyone saying 4.0 because they're not consistent enough, I'd say put them up against a 4.0. These guys won't have to get many balls in because not many will be coming back against a 4.0.

Agreed. I think NTRP ratings are effected by the competition in an area as well. Any time a team from my area goes to districts they are usually crushed by a team from the Bay or from Sacramento that seems like they're "sandbaggers" but really their area just has stronger players so better competition. Usually they have a record at their given level locally that makes sense but when they face computer rated players at their same level from other areas where there isn't the same competition they crush them and the people go home feeling like they've been cheated. I've done a little research because I've been that guy before.
That said the guys in the original video could definitely make the 4.5 team where I play but they might get stomped at districts.

I would think that too. they hit big (certainly bigger than the average 4.5) and make some good shots but they also make tons of UEs). maybe they overhit a little for their level?

It appears to me, that in London they:
    -Play man tennis
    -Are fearless
-View the return of serve as something to swing 100% every single time
-Don't scream/pump fists (even on good shots!)/whine/yell at themselves

My guess is going to be 5.0, but there's a lot of unforced errors in that video. Here's my reasoning. I've played against 4.5s and 5.0s (computer ranked). These guys hit bigger, but the 5.0 guy was definitely more consistent than either of these guys and would probably give them trouble, because he'd just topspin it in until they hit a winner or strong forcing shot.

My only question on that video is if the aces were edited out. I don't think the video showed a single ace, at least during the first part I watched.

Perhaps the quality of the shots from one player has an effect on the quality and consistency of the shots from the other player?

Just curious if the title of the video about these two players being bench mark 4.0 players factored into your rating of strong 3.0?

FWIW, they look about 4.0 to me.

The surface is hard court acrylic (Green Set Grand Prix) which is pretty much the same sort of hard court acrylic used at the US Open (Decoturf).....

LOL!! That made me laugh.

They can play at 4.5 thru 5.5.
What they really are won't be revealed until we know their tournament history.

    5.5 no way

also, the 'hitting hard' part is exaggerated by the indoor echo.... those balls are really not that big, and depths are not too good either.

    blue 4.5, grey 5.0

also about the aces, maybe edited out, but these serves are really not that big to generate too many aces anyway.... blue's serve is actually pretty bad.

Don't ADD onto what you read!
    Understand as it's written.
    Nobody called them real 5.5's.
A 4.5 can play in A/Open, 5.5, and WIN some rounds in Q's and futures.
But he's no way a real open player.

Those would be my thoughts. The 4.0 and 5.5 quips made me laugh though :)

It's the final of a London wide, recreational box league where in theory, anyone from beginners through to coaches or pros can enter. It would be a bit like if New York had a city wide recreational league, though for this particularly final, then ran a tournament knockout format for the league players with the best results. There is no prize money nor any LTA ranking points at stake. It not LTA (equivalent to USTA) run nor backed by Aegon (who sponsor the likes of the Queens Club pre-Wimbledon tournament and various challenger events).

As a result of that I suspect people are slightly more laid back, play slightly more for enjoyment (and also probably why they're ripping their shots), though of course, everyone still tries to win, but probably without the poisonous attitude that you can sometimes get from matches that are going to affect any officially sanctioned rating or ranking. It would be a bit like your club championships, except this is city wide, with the 'club' simply being the aggregation of all the various matches at various local venues.

rdrew (grey) is LTA rated 5.2 which is roughly equates to NTRP 5.0. It's also supported by the top 1% percentile data from his results (same as used by USTA for calculating the percentage of NTRP 5.0 in the tennis playing population). He had a 20-1 W/L record (2nd place) in the Div 1 league just gone. Blue guy had a 19/6 W/L record (19th place).

Well, we know Fewilpo, Ton, and Clint would crush those guys, so they're not legitimate 5.5's.
And yes, they are both better than run of the mill 4.0's.

The blue shirt looks to be a 4.5, grey shirt a 5.0. Looks like our 4.5 club league here. However, here every error you hear the guys whining to themselves. A bunch of COME ON screams. Can not believe how quiet this match was. All business. Nice! Torres, did you win your 2.0 challenge match?

Thanks for the info on the league. I've played extensively in tournaments and leagues in the UK and USA. An LTA rating of 5.2, gained and tested through tournaments, is a strong 4.5 not a 5.0.
