Personally i think they should get rid of,

    Poker
    Pool
    Rodeo
    Golf
    Fishing
    Hunting

any or all of those to make room for more tennis airtime

  2. They should also get rid of baseball, football, and basketball.

    Life would be good.....:)

None. I don't like tennis matches on ESPN. They do everything wrong.

They should just stop replaying old stuff. Right now on ESPN2 they're showing a Weightlifting show from 2006.

    WNBA.
    Women's college basketball.

The only people interested in those are friends and relatives of the players.

this is silly. personally I think poker/fishing/hunting/pool have no right on a sports network but they obviously get better ratings than tennis, especially poker. it's sad but why would ESPN get rid of poker and replace it with tennis when they will get less viewers?

as for golf, seriously, it's one of the most popular sports. maybe NBC should have covered Houston Clay Courts last weekend instead of The Masters...?

and baseball football basketball??? that must have been a joke.

I'm not a friend or a relative of any women's college basketball player or coach, but I watched a good amount of the tourny as my team did better than they ever have. Of course the result was always going to be UCONN, but it was still fun.

  9. I simply do not understand why tennis doesn't get better ratings than some of these stupid "sports."

Why don't people like tennis?:cry::cry::cry:

Edit: The real question should be....why don't Americans like tennis?

I live in New York and everyone around me is obsessed with baseball and football and basketball. There is not one single person I can talk to in my high school who has decent knowledge of tennis.

this question has been asked many times and there are so many contributing factors. but i think the top 2 are

    1) it's much easier to get involved in team sports as a youngster. when one first starts playing tennis they SUCK. it's hard to keep the ball in the court. however, when one starts playing t-ball it takes about 20mins of practice and you feel like you can pretty much play baseball. that idea grows as you get older.

    2) exposure. no tennis on tv (not compared to the other sports) and no players to idolize (no americans, that is)

Don't forget that ESPN has to pay for the rights to show tennis. If they feel that showing tennis wouldn't be a worthwhile investment, then they won't show regardless of how crappy their other programming is.

not only is tennis an expensive sport to get involved with but tennis is a fairly intellectual sport. someone who knows nothing of tennis will have an extremely difficult time sitting down to watch it and attempting to figure out what is going on...

we have our own channel anyhow :)

  19. That must be the most boring sport in the world, both to watch and to attend.

    I can't imagine attending a NASCAR race.

It's only fun when they crash.:twisted::twisted::twisted:

All of those should go. None of them are sports and they belong on an entertainment/outdoor life/golf/channel.

    Q. what sport do you play?

    A. I play poker

    Yeah, right.

Unfortunately, they will get a higher Nielsen rating by showing old Weightlifting than they do a live tennis match. I hate it, but it is an unfortunate fact. :( Female figure skating gets a higher rating than tennis. That will tell you a lot.

its mainly because tourneys last a couple of weeks. no tourny is over in 1 day. All the other sports dont span ovdr a week or 2. thats why they dont show it. They cant show one round and stop

Everything you lifted except for Golf. Golf gets interesting at times as long as they cover it right...ESPN doesn't but NBC does a good job..you know by focusing on the green and the players people want to see. ESPN always fails with their golf coverage as you wind up getting a lot of boring parts and very little green action. Seeing people hit on the fairway..not that interesting. (Although that tree shot Angel did at the Masters in the tiebreaker where it went through the trues that was amazing.. oh man so glad he won after that.)

I don't catch ESPN but yeah if they show baseball or basketball, they should really put those on the back burner and show more tennis. That won't happen though because USA loves those 2 'sports' (I use that term very loosely regarding baseball).

Bowling is more of a sport than Poker, Pool, Rodeo, Fishing and Hunting. Bowling is extremely difficult, much more so than many people think, trust me I know I bowl and those pro's they show on ESPN are the real deal, it takes years and years of practice to get that good, it take hand eye coordination, arm strength and stamina. Bowling as many games in a row as those guys do tires you out, trust me, I have bowled tournaments where I have bowled 12 games in one day....you try doing that and tell me its not an athletic activity both mentally and physically.

I say get rid of Pool, Fishing, Hunting and Weightlifting. Poker will never go because its gets huge ratings.

i really think the reason people dont watch tennis much is because they have never played it. its so easy to watch it on tv and not understand how hard the players are fighting if you have never played.

On our channels here in EU they could definitely get rid of Snooker and put motor sport on it's own channel :( for goodness sake can't they at least just show the SFs and Finals of all the ATP tennis? They don't have to show all.

They put on a lot of WTA tennis but that is definitely not going to make people enthusiastic about tennis :(

Weightlifting and Strongman competitions are fine.

Honestly, I haven't even seen weightlifting on any of the ESPN channels. I've only seen the Strongman competitions, but I'm glad they do show them. I agree they shouldn't show the previous years' competitions so often, but showing the Strongman competitions when they do occur is fine.

I meant the past years ones they show all the time, I guess I shoukd have been clearer. The current years competition I have no problem with, but its annoying to keep showing the one from last year over and over. Same with some other sports to. They show weightlifting occasionally and its not that exciting a sport, least not to me but thats a personal preference.

Pool is mentally as tough as bowling, with the need for precision and accuracy as well as hand-eye coordination, but physically bowling in much more demanding, throwing a 16lb ball down those lanes at over 20mph consistantly for several games in a row while dealing with the constantly changing conditions of the oil on the lanes you are bowling on is difficult, and I would say more so than pool is. I have played both for a while, and bowling is a more athletic activity. Not knocking pool though, its tough, but bowling is more so overall on both the mind and the body.

baseball is not a sport? since when..?

also, why would espn but the two most popular sports in America on the "back burner" in order to make room for the least popular?

Tennis is my favorite sport but in no way are Americans inferior to the rest of the world because they don't like tennis and prefer more fast paced sports (b-ball) or a sport with much more sentimental value (nation's pass time, after all).

IMO, let's leave tennis coverage on Tennis Channel.
ESPN doesn't show matches to the end sometimes, than you have the score line on the bottom on ESPN2 and most important, their commentators are horrible!!!
