They've always had to go out of their way to be offended, but this is ludicrous.

In the game above, you play a skinless 'tanooki' that chases Mario in an effort to get back his bloody fur. Is it just me, or is this tasteless approach going to win them few friends?

    Mr. Orynge
There are countless video games filled with what can only be described as unspeakable violence and depraved misogyny, and THIS is the one you feel offended by???!!! I think PETA sometimes pushes the envelope in the name of advocacy but turning the tables on the video game culture to make a humane point doesn't offend me.

Gotta go with olly on this one.

Wearing fur in this day and age is reprehensible and just plain silly.

    ^^^ says the "bunny"....

Seriously, I can't understand the original point.

PETA does not go out of their way to be offended - they get offended at almost anything. To go out of your way to do something would mean extra effort - PETA doesn't use any extra effort to be offended by something...

"Is it just me or is this tasteless approach..." Is he saying he has been won over or not?

It's not a 'humane point,' it's a macabre (and bizarre) association between gaming's least violent icon and an act that nobody playing such a game would consider, much less condone. People playing MW3 are not going around shooting people in real life; people playing Mario are not going around looking for tanookis to skin. I understand your point in the context of the former, but this really isn't the venue for that can of worms. The latter, on the other hand, is one of those things that nobody in their right mind would even have conceived of, unless they were deliberately looking for a reason to make a stink - that's why I said they have to go out of their way. In fact, those two kinds of games are 100% incomparable in terms of the impression they've left on our culture. There's a reason why people associate Nintendo with 'kiddie' games.

Let's make this simple. I've played Mario games all my life, and I have never once been inclined to wear fur. These whackjobs are making a connection between two completely isolated phenomena, and they couldn't have picked a less relevant group to target with their hyperbole.

Most commercial leather is by-product from the beef industry. I'm not a PETA pal or anything, but come on, fur is just over the top, no?

Wearing fur doesn't seem to be as prolific as it used to be. The question isn't whether the act is degenerate or not, but whether it has any relevance today - and if so, whether there exists a connection with the Mario franchise. The obvious answer is no, there does not.

If PETA had targeted another game - say, the skinning profession in WoW (arguably a more immersive experience than a platformer) - without all the bother of a morbid parody, I would have simply rolled my eyes and moved on, as I do with all of PETA's usual endeavors. What they've done here is just obscene.
