okay so u r playing in a final of a tournament, no matter how big and your opponent is an avid string brekear. you win the first set 7-6. he wins the secondo set 7-6. Then in the first game of the third set, ur opponent breaks the string on his last racket. the club u r playing the tournament at does not lend out rackets. do you lend the kid one of your rackets, or do you take the default and win

This is sometimes are hard situation. Of course when playing for practice or for fun it is always courteous to lend a racquet to your opponent. When playing a tournament, the USTA is extremely strict about not having other racquets. If a player is out of racquets he/she is defaulted immediately. You are allowed to lend a player a racquet if you want, but in a tournament I know I wouldn't. Just because you want to win badly doesn't make you a bad person, just a competitive player.

*Take the default and win :p

I would let him find another, maybe borrow one from a friend or something. But I wouldn't lend him mine... unless he asks very nicely...

If he's been cool during the match, then yes, I would lend him one. If he's been a tool, then no. But who shows up to a match unprepared like that? That's his own fault. To me, that's like showing up with one shoe.

Take the def. Thats your opponents fault. I would only do that in USTA though. If it were a fundraising tourny for highschool tennis or something I would lend them one.

In that case, I would not let him anywhere near one of my rackets. He will probably break my strings and put me in a precarious situation for the tournament.

If he was winning, take the default, if it was a close game, take the default. i you were hammering him, lend him one and humiliate him.

I would lend them one. I will probably win anyway because he is not used to that racquet

Everything leads to not giving him a racquet, unless you think he's getting your A game out of you. You aren't in the ATP level where you play tournaments just to win so why not then since you play for training for the future.

I'd pack my bag, walk to the tournament desk and take the default.
