Topspinners pop strings more, flat hitters, not so much.

A cheap comfortable string would be a reel of Gosen Micro.

flat hitters don't break strings as often since the strings don't shift around and rub as much

Top spin hitters break more string.

Here is a couple strings that are easy on the arm, basically any highly playable string should be easy on the arm.

    Gamma Professional
    Technifibre X-1

Breaking strings often isn't necessarily an indication of playing at a higher level. I know some guys who break strings a lot because they don't connect with the sweet spot 100% of the time. Would it be fair to say that players 6.0+ would be going through strings quickly? I'm a solid 5.0 and I'm not a string breaker.

To answer the OP's question, topspin hitters break strings more due to string movement. I hit fairly flat and as such don't break as quickly as many players I play with. Cheap and relatively arm easy is going to be softer syn gut. As others have suggested Gosen Micro or my favourite soft syn gut, Forten Sweet (some find it too soft).

    Cheers, Orig

I hit with lots of topspin, but don't break many strings because i use bab pro hurricane. Its durable and in an 18*20 pattern. You will break less strings in a tighter string pattern then an open one.

Pro Hurricane, Luxillon, and most other polys will go dead before you pop a string, even if you hit heavy topspin. Pro Hurricane and Lux will go dead in 6-8 hours of hitting.
