I watched Nightcrawler. Incredible acting by Jake Gyllenhall who rarely blinks through the entire movie in his portrayal as a sociopath struggling to establish a career in LA.

The Counselor, and a string of bad movies since Gladiator and you can add Exodus to that list. I mean there was no way he could ever compete with the great Cecil DeMilles to begin with but yeah. Go watch The Ten Commandments instead. Its a classic. Exodus felt like a shoddy rehash.

Thanks for the opinion. Will probably skip watching it in theater.

Actually didn't see The Councelor yet, but I will. However, I think no other movie after Gladiator could be called bad:

Hannibal - A good movie. Worthy continuation of Silence of the Lambs saga.
Black Hawk Down - Decent, expected propaganda, but was actually a nice surprise.
Matchstick Man - A nice movie. Really liked it.
Kingdom of Heaven - Excellent epic, especially directors cut - not 2h butchered by Hollywood producers version.
A Good Year - A nice feel good movie. Both Russel Crowe and Marion Cotillard are good there.
Body of Lies - didn't watch but looks promising.
Robin Hood - A decent version of classic story.
Prometheus - bad reviews but I liked it. Maybe because I always loved Alien movies. I even found Aliens vs Predators watchable
The Counselor - Didn't watch as said already.
Exodus - Didn't watch but skeptical so that is why I am asking.

Overall waaay above Hollywood average. And that is without listing older legendary movies like Alien, Blade Runner, Thelma & Louise, Gladiator, ...

Anyway, I like Ridley Scott movies. That is all :)

    Sorry.

LOL, I thought you rate every movie you see as the best ever evah. I sort of enjoyed the maze parts. If you look at it that way the premise of most of these so-called scifi movies does not work.

    Try The Signal (2014 version).

Completely agree with your list actually! I never understood why Robin Hood got so much hate. Blade Runner and Alien were legendary. Mr. Scott at his very best!

Saw "Interstellar" finally, would put it in the "Heartwarming but Dumb" category along with films like "Ghost" (Swayze, Whoopi) and "Field of Dreams" (Costner), a tearjerker with enough action thrown in to keep the men happy.

It is Scifi film. and It will be reality one day. we have to figure out a way to create a warmhole just like in the movie. and we will one day move to another planet to live when our sun goes supernova or global warming kills off the planet.

That planet with all water I would not want to live on unless you are a surfur, of course

It was actually to do more with the evolution of mankind transcending dimensions and having the ability to manipulate space and time but sure that works too :)

Watched A Most Wanted Man, just an ok film, to put it mildly.

Looking forward to Big Hero 6 and Paddington, more fun for the upcoming holidays though I'm a bit too old for those, but...

^^ Yeah, right. You're in Houston so stop by my brother's office at Rice U., where he's an astrophysicist, and he'll give you some pointers on "transcending dimensions" and "manipulating space and time." And be prepared for your body weight to approach infinity in the process.

Unfortunately for me, my last movie was Abraham Lincoln: Zombie Killer.

Total waste of time, useless movie if there ever was one. It took me and made me stoopider.

I'm sorry. I'm so turned off by the waste of my time and money, and the waste of so many people's efforts with the film, that it's actually about vampires.

So it did make me stupider indeed.

Predestination (2014) - interesting movie, time travel.

Snake eating its own tail .... forever and ever.

Ethan Hawke. Based on an old short story by Heinlein.

Saw "The Theory of Everything". If you like movies about people (even intelligent people) wallowing through the excruciating miseries of their lives, then this one is for you. Good acting. A bit unfocused.

    Indeed :) Thanks.

Anyway, just saw Minority Report. Missed that movie for some reason, so far. Not bad at all, considering is has Tom Cruise in it, and I am not a big fan.
Maybe that is why I didn't see it earlier.

About Time (2013) - funny, rom comedy which again involves time travel. Added bonus -- nice shots of Cornwall. Some of you may call it "heartwarming but dumb" :D

I did not know Ethan was so B-grade. He was in that trilogy (Before Sunrise etc) which is usually well-rated.
See it and decide for yourself.

I was seeing Predestination while watching the first session of IPTL :)

Thank you. Is Babadook really scary ? or just good movie ? and I was bit suspicious about Tusk because Rotten tomatoes gave it mediocre rating.....is Tusk really good too ? I am seriously considering watching both of these movies.......

Will check out if you say so.

Yeah, after the placidity of this forum, I really need to be shaken up a bit. Got it, but been waiting for a quiet night to see it.

Good Night, and Good Luck. (2005) - George Clooney, David Straitharn (Oscar nomination). Interesting movie.

This Boy's Life (1993) - Real life story of Tobias Wolff's rough childhood. Robert DeNiro, DiCaprio. Interesting and touching.

    Saw the movie "TUSK"

it was OK, give it 3.5 stars out of 5.

bit too far fetched. acting was good. A human being that has gone thru that extensive of surgery can't possibly survive it...

^^It's based on a man who befriended a walrus while he was living in Alaska, and put an online ad out offering free rent to anyone who would dress up as a walrus for two hours a day and stay with him. He even created the bloody walrus costume!

Yeah, I think Persona is awesome. Really taps into some psychological/existential themes, and it is so visually beautiful as well. Have been meaning to see The Seventh Seal as well, so will find out if I like it.
