Saw dat der Pierrot le Fou by le Godard. Was an interesting movie, very original, lots of intertextuality. Wondered a bit afterwards whether I really actually got it though..

The Theory of Everything. Great film and amazing acting by the lead. Also one of the best scores I've heard in ages.

"Gone Girl" Ben Affleck was superb, looking and acting a lot like Scott Peterson of San Quentin's death row.

I recently got flamed by someone here for saying I liked the movie. Either in this thread, or in the Oscar nominations one. :)

I know there are many that disagree but Cache is possibly the worst film I've ever seen when I was expecting so much more. Awful.

Caught two in theater this past Tuesday: Paddington and Interstellar. (If you're wondering how, I saw them at this budget theater that like most of its kind serves as the intermediary between high-end cineplexes and DVD/Blu-ray/streaming, at an unbeatable $2 per ticket on Tuesday.) The former is easily the best kids' movie I've seen in a long time, a delightfully offbeat comedy that will no doubt spawn a number of sequels, and rightfully for once. Even when you think the ending will turn into yet another bland family-comes-together-and-defeats-evildoer cliche director Paul King adds a few nice little twists. Highly recommended, for all ages.

Like most 2nd-rate sci-fi flicks Interstellar suffers from its assumption that the audience already cares about the science without explaining why its story needs to be told within the framework of a fictional universe. Nolan as usual keeps it from becoming boring but I can't see anyone apart from certifiable geeks wanting to see this twice.

Good for you to tackle White rather than move on to the more highly rated (and admittedly the best of the trilogy) Red. White is usually considered the weakest part of the threesome but I personally rank it above Blue. Stuart Klawans makes a cogent case for it here:

I've just watched Superman 4: Quest for peace. This is basically an exercise in how not to make a superman movie. I thought Reeve was very good, Hackman was very good although didn't have much time, the visuals completely ruined it, the fighting scenes with Nuclear man were dreadful, the laws of physics e.g humans breathing in space, as well as moving the moon to cover the sun completely poor, as well as the birth of nuclear man. Terrible film.

Literally, where did the Superman series go wrong??? Superman 1 and 2, were the greatest superhero films ever (along with Nolan's dark knight series), and 3 and 4 were among the worst. I rate Spiderman ahead of the 3rd and 4th instalments of Superman. To make matters worse, the plot was cool - nuclear war, a supercharged bad guy, Luthor back, a few sub-plots. What let this film down were minor details and the lack of effects.

This was a low budget production for a high budget plot. I'm not going to rant about everything that was wrong with the film - simply because I could go on for hours and hours. I would like somebody to do a remake of this film - because Reeve and Hackman do their best to carry the film.

Problems with the effects: Wiring visible on countless flying scenes/same cuts for flying scenes/no starts in space, actually there really is s much wrong with the effects of his film I'm going to stop. I would not encourage any Superman fan to watch this. It doesn't take anything away from the act the first two superman films are legendary, but it des taint the franchise a little. Like, people thought the godfather 3 sucked (which it didn't btw), people wouldn't even consider this a movie, even now I am trying to forget this movie ever took place.

Thanks for the review link. I enjoyed White. Not sure why they say its the weakest of the three -- but then I am new to movies.

Well, it's more lighthearted than the other two, and many weren't too amused by its seemingly glib treatment of love and the slight character of Dominique, but Klawans persuasively shows why that's an equally glib reading of the movie.

If you haven't seen them already Kieslowski is also known for his Decalogue series and his feature The Double Life of Veronique. I frankly find Veronique a little too precious, but much of it is lovely and its dreamy atmosphere alone is worth a look.

Bird Song. Split into 2 "episodes". Very much enjoyed it. Starred Eddie Redmayne and Clemence Poesy.

"As an English soldier fights in the horrific trenches of northern France, he is haunted by the memories of his forbidden love affair with a French woman."

I just realised that she is Fleur Delacour in Harry Potter...Dayum.

Watched "The Last Of The Mohicans" finally, after a mate kept on nagging me about it. It was awesome.

I love how extreme Day-Lewis prepares for his movie roles. Supposedly, he lived in the wilderness where his character might have lived, hunting and fishing and living off the land for several months prior to shooting.

Well, I am one of those people who can also enjoy movies like Transformers and whatnot. But Godzilla was such a disappointment. He looked cool and the build up and sheer size of him was nice, but the rest....

You're a big Star Wars fan, right?

I wasn't looking for great. Mildly entertaining would've sufficed. Pacific Rim was that sort of movie and, in spite of its flaws, was very entertaining. I was hoping 'Zilla could be even better.

    Godzilla ('14) s*cked Godzilla balls.
