"Robin Hood".....Russell Crowe and Ridley Scott team up again to make "Gladiator" with bows and arrows, again with an oppressive monarch and Crowe as the blue collar guy who marshalls the people to rise up in the name of good. Not as effective this time because the battle scenes are too dark, confusing and chaotic. You're better off renting Gladiator and just watching that again.

    Two foreign films:

District 13 - Ultimatum: futuristic Paris, with freerunning and martial arts - what's not to love.

Elite Squad - Brazilian movie about their BOPA special police. Hardcore!

Prince of Persia-the sands of time has a great music with awesome visual effect. Dastan (acted by Jake Gyllenhaal) is my idol now:) Yes, I love a chemistry between the male and female leads.

    Suggestions for you all...

Late night movie works the best for me-few people in the room. I feel like I have my own movie screen in my back yard. You might want to give it a try.

The Young Victoria. It's my favorite movie of this month. Particularly, I love the story between Young Victoria and Albert. They are passionately fond of each other. In reality, for political reasons, it was an arranged marriage.

Pulled up the recording of "Brazil" again, one of those must-see films for its visual imagination, a little sloppy here and there but dazzling work by one of the lesser known forces behind Monty Python. Priceless cameo by DeNiro.

Took my daughter to see "killers" (Kathy Heidel and Ashton Kucher ... spelling??) ... was a light / romantic comedy ... surprised she decided to see a movie with her old man (... she was bored ... waiting for her boy friend to fly in later that night) !!

"Moon", an indie sci-fi flick by Duncan Jones. It gives off a "2001 A Space Odyssey/Solaris" vibe without being as esoteric or confusing. Sam Rockwell is fantastic in the lead role (well, the only role aside from the lunar base computer's voice).

Since intelligent sci-fi flicks are few and far between, this is highly recommended.

Splice - very disappointing. The premise and monster seemed promising but it didn't deliver, not scared at all. kind of like the 4th kind, looks good but not really.

get him to the greek - hilarious, but not as good as the hangover imo

"Red Cliff", John Woo's epic recreation of the war between the three kingdoms in the last days of the Han Dynasty (208 AD) in China. A tad too long (the international version is 288 min) but the acting, especially from Tony Leung and Takeshi Kaneshiro, is excellent and the battle scenes are incredible despite some mediocre CGI shots during the naval sequence.

Just to see how bad it was, I got The Love Guru from Netflix - and it was impressively bad. And I liked the Austin Powers movies.

Available on DVD and Blu-ray, and probably at a video store near you. :)

Look for the international version, it should say Part 1 and 2 on the cover.
