I'm talking about weight added. Has anybody here taken something like a 8 or 9oz racquet and customized it into a 11 or 12oz? Or have you gone from like 9pts HH to 6 HL? How did you do it, why and what were the results? Did it pay off? Please share your experiences.

I took a 10.6oz/300g Pure Drive Swirly model and extended it to 28" from 27" and took it up to 13.5oz for a customer, all in the form of silicone added to the handle, his volkl pallets actually fit the racquet without much effort needed.

    Wilson Sting wide body
2 HH 310g to 5 HL 330g. Plays way better and doesn't hurt my elbow any more.

    Wilson Energy Rail XL
27.5" 10oz 305SW 2HL cheapo alu frame to 12oz 340+SW 6HL. It required piles of lead on the hoop and in the handle. Served bombs and very heavy groundies. Unfortunately, horrible hi-frequency chatter has just changed to equally horrible low frequency vibration, so no love. No precision either.
Eventually, I stripped all the lead and shortened to 23". My kid loves it :)

    Prince Synergy Tour Hyper-lite
28" ~300g 330SW ~8HL to 27.5" 320+g 329SW 9HL. 4x 8" lead on hoop, pile of bluetack in the handle. I gained manouvrabillity, serves remained huge and kicky. Didn't gain enough controll though, but the string tension is too low I guess... Upper hoop still feels too soft in despite of the added lead.

Beware of the custom paint job! I got sick of looking at my trusty HPS 6.1 95 that had lots of scraps and chips, and decided to strip it bare and re-paint.

End result was a really bad *** cool looking flat black stick...that sadly weighed in at 13.2 strung and less HL! The primer and paint added up, and now my whippy friend is a sluggish beast...good for 1 set until you get fatigued wielding it,

Oh well...looks cool...just go with my Classic and KFactor more now.

Head Metallix 2.. From 9,2 oz unstrung to 11,4 oz with silicone and lead. Totally different frame (of course..)

Really good doubles-stick. Wicked serve. Extremely easy to volley with. Made me a lazy player though.. shortcuts. Not good in the end.

Added two padlocks either side of the top of my grip, an extra 100g to a vantage bc20, worked very well for two sets, struggled in the third.....

My Pro Staff 95s weigh 366.2 grams each strung. 5 points HL if I remember correctly.

I took the stock pog mid and added 80g and took it from 8pts hl to 16pts hl. It weighs 425g.

    http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showthread.php?t=461567

I also changed the handle to be more rectanglular later on using the cascade in the link and shockshield grips.

Its a better racquet with the added weight. More stable and more solid, it also helps my tennis elbow. I got that by playing too often and using kevlar at the max range on a stock frame. Looking back I think i might not have gotten te had i had the added weight on at the time.

Volleys and serves and slices are better. Ground strokes are more effortless. Lowered tension to 30lbs which also helped the game and the arm.

I demoed some modern frames that were lighter, and well I am not any kind of a fan of light rackets. There is something about having the racket tell the ball who is boss that once you experience it you just cant live without.

I might add abit more weight and have a bit on some sticks, also lookiing at lowering the balance to be less extreme, but give me the stick in my sig over stock anyday!

Covered a Head TiRadical with lead tape to get it up over 13 oz. Kept adding tape and stripping it off, but never got comfortable with it at any weight. Just too light a platform to begin with.

In short, I have retired from the customization world. It was fun while it lasted, but from now on I'm using a frame that fits my needs 'stock'.

I reduced the size of my roddick gt + down to 27" just yesterday by taking the buttcap off and sawing the handle. I guess thats not too extreme.

Added 40g of lead to the hoop of my old POG Mid, just to see what it would do.

It was fun for about 4 minutes.

One of my first racquests was the Wilson Prostaff original 6.0 95. I played with it in stock.

One day I lost to a guy who had a big serve that I could get to, but just didnt have the mass in the racquet head to get it back deep.

Really ****ed me off and polarised my first customization job.

I forgot how much I added, but after that, my racquet swingweight was somewhere in the 350s (up from 317).

Took a PK 5G Tour and Dunlop Mfil 200G to 15.4 oz. Nearly beheaded my doubles partner on a practice serve. Awesome

I've taken my IG prestige MP to Soderling/Murray/Djokovic kind of spec. 380g static, 370 swingweight, about 4-6pts headlight. Review will be done, pending more play time after an unrelated injury is gone.

    Head augmentation.

Had to turn the oval into a figure 8 after losing a match.
