Just curious to see if people prefer a larger grip size or a smaller grip size. My measured grip size is 4 1/2, but I have been playing with a 4 3/8 for a few years. I have heard different theories on this and wanted some input.

When I first started playing I used an L4 grip because that is my "proper" hand size, then went up to L5, then L6, and experimented with L7 a little but and settled back on the L6. It is all about what works for you. My L6 is essentially an L5 with two overgrips on top. L7 might have worked but building up the grip that much adversely effect the weight and balance of the racket. I wish I could find a racket with a true L7 grip for experimentation but they just don't make them in that size.

My proper grip size is a 1/2 but I play with a 3/8 because it gives me a little more freedom and racquet head speed... or at least it feels like it

My grip size is my grip size, ain't no larger or smaller. That's like saying if someone like their suit or dress larger or smaller.

    Dumb thread.

And I hope you don't make a thread about tennis elbows, then go on to tell us you don't play with your proper grip size.

L3 here, but I find that I can play a grip that's one size smaller or larger. The latter, however, would be my preference if I couldn't have my actual size.

I've been using 4 1/2 and building it up with two overgrips. Recently I got a 4 5/8 and now I don't have the option of using an overgrip. So I got a replacement grip that's comfortable and now I won't need to keep stocking up on OGs. I'll just change the replacement grip when the time comes.
