    hi everyone!

I want to know your age when you started playing tennis and your age now.

For me I started playing two years ago. I did improved a lot after two years and i easily adapt with the game maybe because i was a former table tennis champion in my place.

Kind of a hard poll for me to answer. I got my first racquet and "played" with it sometime before age 10 (with my dad and brother). But it wasn't until age 11 or 12 that I actually got into any organized tennis (summer tennis stuff for school kids).

From about age 10 to 12, I can remember doing a ton of hitting against the side of our old house across the driveway. I used to have to stand in the grass, hit the ball against the house, and take it on one bounce as it hit the driveway and bounced over the grass. I probably got more groove on my strokes doing that than just about anything else in my very early learning. ;)

I think I was 6, then played until I was about 10 and then dropped it for Football (soccer for the yankees). played varsity football and then got back to tennis 5 yrs ago when I was 21.... did play on and off in between though, but didn't have my own equipment for years

I am 23. I started at 16, I think, just playing recreationally now and then.
For the last 2 or 3 years I've been playing more regularly, but I'm still not very good :)

I'm 20 and I started 5 months ago just on a whim, and for the time being I'm still addicted :)

My two brothers are 7 and 9 and they're just started, I seriously wish someone had started me back then, although who knows if I would've liked it then...

I was 7. That was 43 years ago.

Didn't have much choice. Mom was top five in the 35s. Dad was #1 on his company's (huge) Ladder ... and many years later Coached our Freshman Team. My brother was already a top Junior in the area. Tennis and I were ... destined. Of the five kids in our family, only the youngest brother did NOT become a Teaching Pro.

(Little Bro was the most naturally gifted of us all. When we'd all lost before him in a nearby tourney, he tanked in the 16s Semis ... just so we could all go home.)

On the drive home we were all congratulating him for being the only one who made it that far in his Draw. He kinda muttered, "Yeah. And I can't stand this game."

Dad swerved the Suburban to a stop on the side of the road. We were all stunned into silence....

When asked why he'd never said anything, Little Bro said, "What difference would it have made? We're a 'Tennis Family.' We always enter the tourneys and travel together. If I'd said, 'I'd like to stay home this time,' we'd all still be here. So ... I play tennis. Big deal."

The next year he was a Football Wide Receiver. [Gasp!]

[Sorry for taking you all down Memory Lane with me.]

I probably hit a tennis ball for the first time when I was 12/13. I didn't really play much tennis until I went to University at 18 and there was a tennis court outside my window.

Everyone in my family played Badminton. When I was younger I played almost everyday, so my hands are pretty good. I'm 21 now.

i think i was 15 when i started. i wasn't very social at that age so i wasn't keen on the team sports. so i camped out on the courts (like the big nerd that i was) and stayed til the sun went down. during my teens and 20s i spent hours playing every day. i'm older and life doesn't allow me that much free time anymore. but i still love the game.

last fall i was in an accident and had to have both my legs operated on (to re-attach my quad tendons. trust me, it wasn't pretty). i was in a wheelchair for five months and have been in rehab all this year (had to learn to walk again like i was a little baby - lol). so obviously, i'm not playing right now. probably too much information, but hey, that's when i found this board. since i couldn't play and was stuck at home, i thought i'd read and talk about tennis instead.

    I'm 14.

I have been since I was 8 or 7 1/2. I started because my mom was and still is a tennis fanatic.

And so I got into it. :) It has been so much fun.

Look out for me as nationally ranked in the country. ;)

Always loved tennis and was sick with the flu and was out for a week of school during the AO. I watched it all week and loved it. It was when Safin won. I really wanted to get into tennis but never really had a chance. Then I bought my first racquet that March and played with my one friend who had played but wasn't very good. He kept beating me but I loved playing. Finally I got a set off him and from then on I beat him consistently.

I decided in August 2005 I wanted to make the varsity tennis team, tryouts were about 6 months away and I had about a month of total tennis practice against crappy players. Enrolled at the local club and took private lessons with a pro as much as I could and group lessons every week. I also had 2 friends at school on the team that said they would play with me, and we played almost every day. I made the varsity team which was my main goal and hurt my knee 2 weeks into the season. I wasn't going to play anyways, except exhibition matches.

Now I have been playing for a year and will most likely play 2 or 3 doubles for my team. Pretty good I must say since I've played for a year and most everyone on the team has been playing for 4-5 years.

Think I started when I was 7. It was with my father but he insisted that we play against the wall(some pretty nice outdoor squashcourts in our area at the time). The real tennis courts were right behind and always wondered what it would be like. But I didn't mind because the wall was pretty fun. Played for like 3 years then our racquets were stolen.

Resumed the game at age 16, with my best friend with a full campaign on the real courts. He whipped me for many years but I've finally got the best of him the last 3 or so seasons.

KK, nice trip down memory lane. Your brother sounds like the Gauston Gaudio of your family.

I started 10 years ago, at age 11. Everyone is saying when they started "seriously" playing, not quite sure what means. If it means taking group lessons from qualified instructors and starting playing in USTA tournaments, then for me it was age 15. Never took private lessons, so maybe I never started seriously playing.
