When will Hewitt retire?

I find it painful just to watch the wounded midget play, considering all the surgeries he had to endure.
I used to respect him for his fighting spirit when fighting made sense. Now he just prolongs the agony. Tennis players need to know when to leave with dignity - Roddick and Safin certainly knew.

This applies to Davydenko as well. He should retire in 2013 and not play a sad clown.

Hewitt is hardly "undignified" in continuing to play. He's been dealt a lot of injury in the last couple years and wants to play a full season.

His play in Stockholm(i was there) was painful, he played like a tw poster, an average one...
Yet he was able to make it to R16 at this year's Australian Open, taking a set off Djokovic.

Yes but that match against Almagro was so poor.. Even his victory against Nieminen which he won was not very good, i am a fan of his btw... i guess he has lost some scrambling abilities as well as there are so many counterpunchers now, that are as good if not better, with more power. I think he would have done better as a counterpuncher in the serve and volley era, atleast he got a few years of it... He is amazing once someone is at the net, a real target player, passing all over the place, great lob of course. A shame tennis has changed so much(s&v gone..) He has a good volley, and i like the way he does not overhit, as many other pros do nowadays. In the Stockholm matches he just suddenly faded in the middle of the rallies, and often hit the middle of the net. He uses low tension btw, 40 lbs.

Hewitt runs out of gas because he's not as fit these days. He's had to deal with surgeries and hasn't really had time to get in shape as he's been basically playing the game as soon as he can. Hewitt has a heart of gold, and he's admirable as he just keeps on getting up after being beaten down by injury.
