Where's Tsonga?

Injured his knee at the beginning of clay season. Not sure when he's due back to be honest, I just can't remember.

He had knee surgery, I think the first Tuesday of the French Open and as Fee mentioned, no timetable had been set for his return. He was slated for the olympics, but withdrew from that.

Thanks. I just kind of miss the lummox. His lumbering play. He has a bright future in this game, I believe... if he could stay healthy.

actually that will be a problem since he seems to suffer from chronicle back (spine) injuries that almost ended his carreer prematurely

Just imagine how Joe Wilfred Tsonga feels - this guy has an amazing amount of potential but he may never realize it and the public may never see it. If that's the case it will be a real shame because a lot lesser players ability wise have gone on to make big names for themselves.

Let's hope when he comes back, he has a clear run from injury for at least 12 months. Also, better for him to come back when his body is ready as opposed to rushing back.

Hmm, a lot of hateraid being spilled all around here just because he smashed Nadal in the AO? Look the guy has game wether you guys want to admit it or not. His problem is overcoming injuries. I wonder how many of you have ever even heard of him or seen him play before the Aussie Open.

i'm sure if he hadn't beaten nadal, half the posters on here wouldn't give a damn about him.

He has an amazing potential for sure but he has to prove that he can be consistent enough to be a top ten player. by the way he sucks on clay, face it edberg505.

Yeah, everytime he gets on a roll, he gets injured. It's too bad. Even if he never wins a Slam, he's a great player to have in the draw, because he's fun to watch and he poses the potential to upset a lot of players.

It's kinda hard to be consistent when your injured all the time. By the way, how many matches has he played on clay this year? Hell since he's been a pro which is a while now, how many times has he played in his own country's grand slam the French Open?

I think that he only played RG last year (I don't remember exactly).

This is exactly what I mean. He's been a pro since 2004 and since he's been a pro he's only played in each of the slams once. The Aussie Open of course being the exception and this year was only his second time playing in it. His lone appearance at the french came in 2005 by the way, which was the very first time I saw him play against Andy Roddick.

He's one of the brightest stars on tour and I want to see him back. Hopefully these injuries don't end up ruining his career.

He doesn't just look like Ali, he PLAYS like him. There's something in his movement and the way he just patiently plays defense and then suddenly unloads a forehand that reminds me of the greatest.

I heard he needed 6 months off after surgery.
Extract from L’equipe (
6th June 2008 ... )
TSONGA VISE L’US OPEN.
Rough translation: June 6th, 2008.
He was in Roland yesterday to see the doc and everything is going well. He walks normally and is just being careful when he goes down and up stairs. He’ll start the rehab on Monday and should be able to hit again at the beginning of August. Which means there still is a little chance he’ll be able to play in Beijing, but it’s safer to count on the US Open.
I think he's dead...
huh ??

What the hell are you talking about, He almost won a clay tourney, before withdrawing from his semifinal match to have his surgery! He was playing hurt for almost 3 months he tried to finish the season but was told he's risking permanent career threatening damage to his knee if he continued. He'll be back for US open lets hope he knocks out federer and not Nadal out, this time. I Pray for a speedy recovery and injury free career for him. He's a good guy and Tennis World needs him.

So is it safe to look forward to seeing him at the U.S. Open? I'm in NYC and inquiring minds want to know.

Hopefully Tsonga will be ready to play in the US Open unfortunately I don't see him making a run because he will probably be a little rusty. As for some of the people who mentioned Roddick, I think he is pretty much done. I don't see him as a threat anymore except for Davis Cup. He hasn't improved anything and his forehand is really letting him down.
