    Yep, I used a Wilson JK Pro Staff (Mac's old woody), before I "upgraded" to the Wilson Pro Staff Original 85 6.0 graphite (circa 1985).

    (But I have not played with wood since.)

    Of course speed and movement would have helped. But not as much as in today's game. Players in Laver's era aren't hitting 105mph winners. They aren't hitting with 3000rpm of topspin. It wasn't a completely baseline game.

    Of course Nadal would create topspin. But he isn't creating Year 2009 Nadal Topspin. He would be creating topspin at the level of those players in that era.

    In that era, Nadal's topspin would be far less. But he would be more developed in other areas -- serve, S&V, net and volley.

    federer first one to win 17 grand slam and 237 consecuitve weeks as No. 1 (far more than previous record of 186 consecuitve weeks by steffi graf)
    first male player to be no. 1 for more than 300 weeks (only graf and martina navrortilloa has spent more weeks as no. 1)

    nadal die hard clay court specialist with 7 french open, who also won australian, wimbledon and us open. no. 2 for record record 160 consecutive weeks
