Aragone came here from California for a visit the same weekend that Corinteli visited, but I have no idea what his leanings are.

Virginia going down a dangerous road. The Stanford road I like to call it. Just snap up the best American juniors or seemingly the best. Getting lazy, rely on others for talent evaluation, getting players who's best days are behind them.

Players at 17 or 18 have their best days behind them? Kind of an odd statement! So who are the players that have their best days ahead, according to you?

Yes absolutely. It's players that play too much junior tennis and burn out. You want examples? Look at most all top juniors going into Stanford recently. Dennis Lin being a prime example. Virginia has already been a victim with Julen Uriguen.

Now so far Boland has gotten lucky with Frank and Syslinger, However it seems that Polnet,Richmond are falling into the mold of disappointing.

Richmond has had a pretty good couple of months. Polnet has had mixed results, agreed.

Richmond just qualified for the Intercollegiate Indoors as a freshman. How on Earth is that disappointing?

I'm not a UVA fan and I think they are doing a great job at recruiting. My guess is that Pedroso will only be there for 1 or 2 years max before a program makes him an offer he can't refuse.

Multiple players on the team come from extremely wealthy families, and they probably came for little or no money just to be a part of one of the best programs in the country. In-state tuition is $13,000 plus room and board. That is peanuts compared to what has already been spent on tennis for a top junior player.

Ben Wagland looking good. I watched them practice the other day. Wagland will be the best freshman in the country when the year is over. Marco Nunez will be in the top 10 freshmen.

I havent had time to look too much at individual results or stats for Kentucky players but the team is ranked 9 which isnt bad. Sam Monette a freshman at Indiana won at #1 doubles and #3 singles against Kentucky so he is looking good right now.

So what would the consensus be for the top 5 freshman of 2013 based on performance to date?

    Base simply on rankings:
    Syslinger
    Shane
    Bogaerts
    Hiltzik

There are many more worthy of mention though and rankings don't define their worth.

Oklahoma's freshman Axel Alvarez has been winning a lot at #4. Stakhovsky has been a solid #6 for us this season as well.

For Miami, William Albanese has been a nice surprise. He has played mostly at the #6 spot but is 13-7 and won a couple of clinchers.

What are y'alls thoughts on how many of UCLA an UVa's top freshmen will see playing time this year and who are the odd men out?

Best way to do that is to see who the coaches are pairing them up with for doubles. Take Mackie, it appears they are pairing him up with Marcos. That being said it would indicate he's going to get a lot of play time.

Not yet though his results lately on the Futures Circuit have been pretty strong. He's got Noah Rubin tomorrow in the semis out in California.

I think regardless of where Mackie will be in the dubs line up, he will see singles action. Not so sure about Di Giulio for singles. Brymer is useless in dubs, so should have a chance to crack the singles line up

UVA has Thai on an injured list for now. It will be tough for the newbies to crack that line up! Maybe they will get to see a little action at 6

Looks like Connor Farren turned pro rather than go to USC. Not sure that was his best move at this age, but OK for me as a Virginia fan, I guess.

Would be a great Christmas present for Ohio State tennis if Blaz Rola returned for his final year of eligibility, but in the meantime...
Including Marko Goles-Babic, 4 new Buckeyes will be added to the roster for the Spring season.
    http://www.ohiostatebuckeyes.com/sports/m-tennis/spec-rel/111913aaa.html

The one that offers greatest promise is from Finland, Herkko Pollanen, who just turned 19 in July. Pollanen was #16 in the world Junior rankings, and now ranks #736 on the ATP singles tour.
    http://www.atpworldtour.com/Tennis/Players/Po/H/Herkko-Pollanen.aspx

Some very lofty words from Buckeye head coach Tucker,
"Herkko has all of the credentials to come in and start right away for the Buckeyes,” Tucker said. “We are extremely happy he chose Ohio State because he had the chance to turn professional after an unbelievable junior career. He has had some big wins in Davis Cup play for Finland and we look for Herkko to be an All-American and a team leader.”

For next year, Tulsa has commitments from Spencer Papa and now from Or Ram-Harel, an outstanding recruit from Israel.

I see Jordan Daigle was ranked as one of the top newcomers for this year. However, I seem recall a couple of posters opining that Daigle would probably redshirt this year as he was thought to be one of the weaker of the Cav's recent top recruiting class. Did Daigle's fall change his outlook for this spring? Is he expected to be a potential contributor now?

Here is an old question that has probably been answered in the past: Can you play in the fall and then redshirt in the spring?

Looking at UVA's lineup the last two matches, again, I'm surprised to see Daigle playing ahead of the other guys who signed at the same time as him who were rated higher. For those who follow the UVa program, what's the word on the expected impact from this past year's freshmen class? Are any of the guys going to redshirt? Or is it too late since they played in the fall?

I don't think any freshmen are redshirting at UVa. Daigle, Kwiatkowski, and Corinteli all played this weekend in the NTI kick-off. Juan (J.C.) Aragone played well in the fall but has been rehabbing a minor injury this January.

Daigle is the most in form of them going into the season. That could change though throughout the season. Thai-Son is probably the best of them overall

MSU's Florian Lakat. Seen him play twice. Playing in the 1 slot in the SEC if his spring goes well will be a good bet for FOY.

Very impressive by Nilsson if so. He's one of the top coaches in the nation. Year after year brings in impressive international guys. A lot of programs get lightning in a bottle international guys and are good for a few years but then dip off once those guys leave.

Examples being Wisconsin(Michalicka,Baumann) Louisville(Childs), Oklahoma State(Nedovyesov), Texas Tech(Carvalho,Escobar), Miami(Vallverdu,Crowley), GT(Gomez). To name a few. But with Miss State they can lose all their guys yet they are replaced by just a solid players.

It's not Nilsson's fault Starkville is the dullest town in the USA. But Bogaerts out? Ok Lakat in. Impressive stuff.

McDonald, great player, winning most of his matches on #3 vs very good competiton.
Teammate Brymer is also really good, but plays #4 where he is 7-2 in finished dual matches.

Harris, a top40 player, has 10-2 singles wins in team-matches all on #3 and #4, he is also 7-2 in #1 doubles, amazing for a freshman.
His teammate Ghilea is having a hard time, he is only 3-4 on #5 and #6 singles.

Schnur maybe is the best out of this list here, he is 12-0 on #1 , really looking forward to the weekend match vs UVA. Schnur is killing people on court !!!
Teammate Schneider is 13-1, on #1 mostly on #2 and #3, he would be a #1 player..if Schnur would not be there...
There is also Jack Murray on that team, he is 11-3 mostly on #4

Goldhoff had a good fall, where he beat Liebitis, Webb, Bettles, but has recently struggled, he is 6-9 on #3 Singles and lost his last 4.
Nick Horton is struggling a little bit, he is 6-6, mostly on #4, also he is great in doubles. Is winning mostly in #1 doubles with Sean Weber.

Kwiatkowski, it is allways tough to be on the uva -roster, he only could finish 7 matches so far, he is 6-1 in that, covering 4, 5 and 6.

Gozun was a joke on this preseason list..he is 5-14 mostly on #3 and #4 ...also he earlier beat Wagland and Diep, he is really struggling so far.

So far Schnur is my real FOY, followed by players like McDonald, Brymer, Schneider but also Goldhoff, Murray and Harris
have u other players for a freshman list ? Like Lakat and ???
