Nadal won 8 tournaments in 4 months during 2008. Federer hasn't done that in his career.

And why isn't Nadal 2010 an option, or is it clear that would be the only option.

Clearly Nadal. However, polls like this on TT are senseless due to ******* saturation ;)

Nadal also beat Federer at the FO and Wimbledon in 2008 while Federer defeated Soderling and Roddick in 2009

This is a stupid thread. Why would one compare Federer in 2009, when Federer was clearly already past his prime to a 2008 prime Nadal?

Makes no sense. If you are going to compare them the parameters have to make sense--i.e.compare the heart of Fed's peak to Nadal's or something like that.

In any case, it only really matters what both have achieved at the end of both of their careers.

Nadal 2008 by a huge margin. Dumb poll. Federer winning it only proves the over the top *******ism on this board.

No. Both sides have good arguments and can't go wrong with either one of them. Although I pick Fed b/c there was a lot of pressure in him winning the FO and then match Sampras's 14 by winning Wimbledon.

Dumb thread, Fed 2009 was personally for him and his fans a fantastic year, but results wise Nadals 2008 beats Feds 2009.

Both great years for both players though.

I think this thread was designed for trolling purposes.

Of course you do. Federer could **** on an old lady and you would call it the best shot of the tournament. If there was a poll for best clay courter ever you would vote for Federer, best server ever you would vote for Federer, best backhand (lol) ever you would vote for Federer.

I would go with Nadal, he won more overall. He did the FO-W-Olympics triple on the three different surfaces, plus had a tremendous consistency throughout the year. Even before the MC to US Open semi run, he had reached finals of Miami, and semis of IW, and semis of AO. So overall, he was performing well throughout the year. Plus he got the Davis Cup to end a stellar run for him.

Federer's year is more historic in that sense that he completed the two biggest quests that were bestowed upon when he rose up to become the best. The career slam, and the slam record. Add on a two slam RUs, and reclaiming the number one, and it was a great year for him. However, he was not at the zenith of his powers in 09, while Nadal in 08 was.

So, I am Federer fan, but I go with Nadal on this one.

Did you ever notice every polls we have in here most members argree with me over you? Even with your own threads, most people(and me) disagree with you.

If you have nothing better to say, then don't. It's pointless to discuss with someone who can't be objective or reasonable.

I wouldn't include DC since it's a team effort. If we are going to compare SINGLE, stick to an event that only has an individual competing.

    1) For people questioning why only consider Nadal's 08 and Fed's 09 - thats 'coz both won 2 slams and both won FO and W those years.

    2) Fed had more pressure to win FO '09, disagree. Nadal had equal pressure to win W after he narrowly escape last year. People were almost saying that it was Rafa's best chance to win W.

    3) In terms of historical significance, Fed's 09 wins hands down. In terms of results, Nadal wins by a small margin (he won more and had more titles overall plus that Olympic gold, but Fed reached 2 major finals which Rafa didn't. Also remember, Fed won the doubles gold and it matters a lot 'coz in the end both won a gold medal for their country irrespective of the means).

    4) In terms of level of play, Rafa wins hands down. Not many tournaments can match the dominance that Rafa showed in FO '08 (especially the final), and his W performance was great too as he won the GOAT of all matches. Fed's form in both slams in 2009 was mostly patchy barring the FO finals, and even in Wimbledon finals, it was more due to his lack of form than Roddick's effort (as great and heartbreaking as it was) that made the match epic.

Slam finals are better than Slam semis but Nadal won a lot more during 2008 than Federer did during 2009. He won the Olympic Gold and had a stretch where he was truly unbeatable. Federer never went through a period like that in 2009. That I think separates their years.
