That icon is a "quick reply" icon. When you click on it, it will take down to the quick message window down below. It is not a email icon. I have a PC but do not run winblows. I'm running Linux Suse 9.2 and Mandrake 10.1. I yet to get any viruses :)

BTW...I'll soon be getting a Mac G4 powerbook laptop 15" Oh Yea!!!

Sometimes a So Cal 4.5 could equal a "Podunk" 5.5. And sometimes not....

Back in '73 I played #4 Singles, #3 Doubles for our State Champion HS team in Alabama. My Junior year, my dad had the audacity to take a better job in Upstate NY.

"Are Yankees better or worse than us? They've got more cold weather, but greater people density. We've got year round outdoor tennis. Hmmm...?"

I learned the HS in NY had been undefeated in match play for something like 18 straight years. When I arrived, the guys on the team assured me even if I did not make the top six singles, I'd be able to practice with the team. (I did not know what to think of that. Were they cocky? Good? Or were they truly being gracious...?)

The biggest shock was ... they thought 50º F was "warm enough to play tennis." Geez!!! I came to tryouts for their Spring season anyway.

After the first day of practice, I was #6 Singles. By the time the season started ... I was #4 Singles, #3 Doubles. (The temperature finally got over 60º ... and I learned to wear more layers.)

That school maintained its unbeaten streak.

In the case of my AL - NY move ... the "levels" were about the same....

I just got my wife an iMac G5. She's always on it. I never see her anymore. I miss her.... That sucker's fast, quite and a really slick design. (The whole computer is in the flat screen. No tower at all.)

KK, I am not sure what your point is. But if your trying to say SoCal 4.5's are better than, Southern, Texas or whatever USTA sections 4.5 I would have to say SHUT UP! If that was the case why doesn't SoCal win 4.5 EVERY SINGLE YEAR?

Does SoCal probably have more 4.5's than any other section? Yes most likley. Could a good SoCal 4.5 team pound some 4.5 team from another section who sucks. Sure. But at the Top level it's about the same.

A good 4.5 is a 4.5 no matter where you are. Some 4.5's are better than others. BUT a 5.5 who loses to a 4.5 is probably not a 5.5 or the 4.5 who kicks his butt is not a 4.5, period.

We had a Mr. My Section is Better Than Your Section guy move to town here from FL a few years back. Bragged how he played on some 4.5 or whatever national champ team from there and how there 4.5's were better than everyones. Whatever. He got his ass handed to him everytime he went out on the courts. When nationals came around that year FL 4.5's were not any competition. Some Section like Intermountaion won. What does this mean? Go figure?

You know what's amazing... I sent my resume'/results to this a**hole, and he can't even acknowledge that I was right!! I have no reason to lie about my tennis acomplishments... It's sad that Datacipher is such a loser that HE has to lie about being "Shown Up" by someone on this board... the Creator of this thread that has been the most popular on these boards in a long time!! 5000+ views... I think Data might be a little jealous! Too bad... Sucker! Everytime we see a thread by Mr. Datacipher... We should all feel sorry for this Troll... Sorry Data... I had to call YOU out!! Loser!

andfor - You and I are making very similar points. (Some on these boards have claimed that (So Cal's) 4.5s would be 5.0s in (Iowa).)

The point of my post was to say, "Maybe. Maybe not."

Thanks andfor and others.....not much of a rumble, I showed up for the fight and got tired of listening to the wind whistling. Is it even a TKO when the other guy doesn't show?

Kap'n, I'd be willing to entertain the idea he cannot or does not know how to access the email....the problem is...he claims to have already sent it days ago! He must see it. After my last reply and verifying my email works, I waited till he came to the board and posted in other threads before giving up. I'm not sure why he picked a fight when he didn't have the goods, other than simply to stir things up, like a good little troll. I've been polite and given him a chance, now all he's got is name calling and insults! lol. So, I'm done with him.

Like I said, I really didn't care what his real ability is...but since he offered, I'd be happy to have a friendly hit with any 6.5, given the opportunity. I guess on the positive side, it makes you appreciate the honest people we do have posting here.

Obviously I misunderstood you KK. The whole my section is better than you section argument is tiring when it comes to NTRP League Play. Other than overall depth in that some sections just have more players than others it's usually a baseless statement when talking about the top teams.

A 4.5 on the South Pole is a 4.5 in Texas and so on. I agree maybe he would be one of the better ones in another section maybe not. Yes a good 4.5 has very good chances against a not so good. 5.0.

Your a fraud and you know it. Send me your resume. I'll be the first one to ring your bell if I am wrong. The e-mail function on my profile works.

Enjoy your make-believe world you live in little TFBOY.

I leave you with one last thought. Even when people can't see you, you can fool some of the people some of the time but you can't fool all of the people all of the time. It's pretty clear we have not been fooled.

Better luck next time under another one of your handles.

I am probably the best player on these boards (certainly the best-looking), but even someone as GREAT as I am wouldn't go around starting a thread that was as provocative as this.

I mean, just because I most likely AM the greatest player on this chat board (certainly the best-looking), doesn't give me licence to "crow" about it! Think about it--here I am, the greatest player here, but do you hear me braggin' about it? Of course not! And this is coming from probably (most likely) the greatest player to ever appear on this chatboard (certainly the best-looking), but again I don't feel compelled to telling the world about it even if I am the greatest player ever to post on these boards (not to mention the best-looking). So what if I am the greatest player on these boards, not to mention the one with the most "killer" looks? Who cares? I wouldn't. Hell, as it is, I don't even care that I AM the greatest (and best-looking) player here.

Hell, if anyone has the right to brag about the fact that they are the greatest (and most handsome) player on this board, it would be me. Except, unlike you, I am very secure in both my sense of modesty and in my very apparent greatness. I don't feel the need to say that I am probably the greatest and most handsome person--forget tennis--in the world! No, I'm simply too modest to do so.

But (just for the sake of argument), what if I WERE to tell you just how great I am? ...... put it this way, there aren't enough hours in a day.....

But that's not the point. I am the greatest (and best-looking) person here on these boards, BUT.....modesty forbides me from saying it.

It's a good thing humility is such a strong part of Dedans' character. He'd be really obnoxious if (say) he made long posts "tooting his own horn." (Thank goodness we're saved from that, huh?)

So who's the best looking member of this board, anyway?

I'm the best tennis player in my office-that's right. Of 25 people, I am king. I reign supreme. I know that four of my colleagues (all women) play casually (I gave them a couple informal group lessons and I KNOW I can whup 'em if we played for money), and the rest don't play at all, but that doesn't matter. What matters is that I am the best...at something...somewhere...anywhere...

The #1 player for Socal's 5.0 championship team was a self rated 4.5. He is now rated a 6.5 by the USTA after not losing a set through the season or at the national championships. The only player that gave him a good match 7-6, 7-6 was also bumped from 5.0 to 6.0.

The #1 from that socal 5.0 team beat a guy who was ranked #25 in NCCA D-1 singles in 2001 6-2, 6-2 at the national championships.

Two more of the players rated at 4.5 on that team were bumped to 5.5. They had three players bumped from 5.0 to 5.5.

So they had 6 players on that team that were 5.5 or better. In other words, the system is a joke and they need to bring back people to watch these matches. Sure it wasn't a perfect system, but it was much better in comparison to the way it is now.

Thanks Chief, it's interesting to see the worst of the worst cheaters in the entire USA. They were the one of the most extreme examples of the holes the self-verification part of the USTA's NTRP system. That's easy to say based on the fact of how high they got bumped. The SoCal Section should be embarresed to have let it go without stepping in. The sad part is the SoCal Section officials all knew who those players are and knew their playing backgrounds and histories before the seson ever started. It's my understanding that the Section will not step in until another player files a player grievance accompanied with playing history and or ranking documentation. So the way the section sees it is if nobody protests then it must not be a big deal to anyone they played. I doubt that last part though.

What blows my mind is how many of them did not get caught earlier and that a number of them looked as if they made it from Jan. to Dec. before being rated up. The USTA is now aware of this kind of problem as is s-l-o-w-l-y taking steps to prevent it going forward. What we can do to help is step up in these blatent cases of cheating and point out these players to the USTA Section and provide the Section these players documented playing histories.

Nah if Bill were so great he wouldn't live in a bungalo. Now if he were, say, Penthouse Bill or at least Split Level Ranch Bill, then he may be in the same league as the Clooney-esque Dedan.

Wait a minute. I HAVE TO dispute that claim and ask for your credentials.

I, for one has been Warren Beatty's body double in SHAMPOO. That's right. Remember that scene with the fridge by the tennis court? All me, stud stunt. Why do you think I got into tennis in the first place? Got to work for those buttocks.

("thank goodness we're saved from that, huh?")

uh - oh ......... seems like ze Kapitan Karl ess carrying some personal baggage into zee post, no? Zometiing wrong here Messr. Kapitan?

nocal and andfor apparently got it.
Not to say that the word OBTUSE should come to mind when a post contains more declarations (13) of being "the greatest!" than a Muhammad Ali press confrence, not to mention an additional 9 distinct references as to being ("certainly the best-looking") . It would appear that the original poster's declarations of "I'm a satellite stud -- I played Kevin Kim tough -- I'm better than you all" was somewhat off-putting to many and was eventually being challenged by Datacipher, andfor, nocal, et al.

It would also appear that when a post (such as mine) is so clearly tongue-in-cheek "over-the-top" ........ well suffice to say (again), norcal and andfor got it. Zomettiiing wrong here Messr. Kapitan? Something, er, CRYPTIC you were trying to say? A bit chilly willy, or rather, a bit snarly Karly.

david aames: There will be no agrument from me regarding your more-than-good looks. But Shampoo circa '75 will get you just so far, even if you look like a Hollywood star. Warren Beatty-esque you may be, but Beatty as Jay BULLworth you can tag on me! You see, I'm not only handsome a la Warren Beatty in a "Shampoo" sense, but I have that rugged added "seasoning" a la Sen. Jay Bulworth. Well, I'd like to go on and on about myself, but MODESTY ..... alas, once again ..... MODESTY prevents me from doing so, even if my "modesty" is lost on some others. ;-) However, you ARE, Diamond Dave, no diamond in the rough--you too, are indeed, most certainly buff.

The rating system is only good for distinguishing 1.0 players from 3.5 players. Then it's good for distinguishing 3.5 players from 5.0. I don't think it's good for anything in between.

The funny thing about Satellites/Futures is that anyone can play them in the qualies or the wild card tournaments....this doesn't make them an awesome player. From now on, I'd like to request members to please state the max ATP points you had or your ranking in your NTRP level. This would be a better way to compare players.
