With Nadal defending so many points from the clay court swing, he will most probably be rank number 5 by FO, with Ferrer holding the number 4 spot.

Murray does not have much to defend, losing last year in the Quarters of Monte Carlo and Barcelona, and losing in the 4th round of Rome Masters. So he'll probably be the second rank player by FO since Federer won Madrid and reached the SF of Rome (unless he plays Monte Carlo to get points).

With these scenarios, with Murray rank 2 and Ferrer as the #4 seed, there's a chance that Djoker, Roger and Rafa will be in the same half of the draw at the French Open as seeded #1, #3, and #5 respectively.

Personally, I want Rafa to meet Djoker in the quarters with the winner to play Federer (if he does not lose by then ). These 3 will probably slug it out and the other finalists will have a chance at least. And probably, the other finalist will either be Ferrer or Murray.

A Rafa, Djoker and Roger half will be really interesting. What's your take on it ?

Ugh, why do you want this Federer play Nadal or Djokovic on clay? Really???

Are you really wanting to see a line like 6-2, 6-2, 6-1 in the semifinal of any slam?

Are you underestimating The Mighty Fed ? If Djoker beats Rafa, there's no guarantee that Djoker will beat Fed.
Federer, tho' he is old and not on his prime, is still better on clay than Nole imho

More interestingly, whose quarter will Nadal end up in? If it's Fed the meh, IW on clay. If on the djoker and he somehow manages to progress, only complacency in the SF and F can stop him for an eighth title.

I'd love to see him in Novak's quarter and Novak & Fed's side of the draw assuming both are in the same half. That would be an awesome French open.

Nadal would beat Federer in 90 minutes or less if they play at RG this year. No interest in this. Djokovic vs Federer wouldnt be much more of a contest. Nadal vs Djokovic would be quite unlucky for both, but with no other strong opponents for either most likely at this years French the fatigue factor for the winner wouldnt have much meaning.

If it means Djokovic playing Nadal in the quarters and beating him, then Federer beating Djokovic in the semis and him winning the title, then I'm for it lol

Wawrinka and Del Potro will magically appear in Federer's half and knock him out in their second time trying, before he gets to the Semi's.

But I think Djokovic still has a better chance against Nadal then Federer, Federer can only keep himself alive with his serve nowadays.

Better if Nadal and Fed meet in the quarters. Fed will be fresher and Nadal less dangerous.

I don't get fans of Federer who hope that Djokovic will take out Nadal and get tired and loose to Federer who will that way eventually win RG. Or in general any of the big four fans who hope to avoid someone out of the big four.

I like them all but if I had to pick one guy that I like the most it would be Djokovic, and I would be really, really disappointed if Djokovic won RG this year without metting Nadal. If I had to pick between Djokovic having to play with Nadal and Djokovic having a path to the RG title without meeting Nadal I would always choose for Djokovic to play him.

And I feel the same way about Federer, I would have nothing against him winning the RG, I would be happy for him but it will be a shame if whomever wins RG doesn't face Nadal (except Nadal himself obviously).

If Nadal goes out early, what can you do, it happens, but don't hope for it to happen. Especially if you are a fan of Federer, arguably the greatest player the sport has ever seen. You should all hope that he faces his greatest nemesis and wins, overcomes that obstacle, being a champion that he is.

Would be awesome if Gulbis is also on their side...

I believe* he has the audacity to take out both djokovic and nadal!!

I do think Federer would have the variety and aggressiveness to beat Gulbis though.

Thoughts? have I lost the plot and am on the cusp of fanboyism?

    * unsubstantiated opinion based purely on gut feel, i.e. RELAX before you reply angrily.
P.S. I actually think that Nadal won't face Gulbis and will win RG this year.

Guys, please write it down this will be the draw

    QF : Fed vs Rafa
    SF : Winner faces Murray

    QF: Novak vs Delpo
    SF : Winner faces Ferrer

Other two QF's would be Tsonga and Berdych. (facing one of Murray and Ferrer).

They would want Fed and Rafa to meet and Rafa and Novak to meet in finals.

Nadal already dropped to 5th. nice to see you've been paying attention.

I know what you mean, and I agree. I remember these discussions I have with my dad who always ask me who would I like Novak to meet in next match (saying for example Federer playing Almagro) and would 'cheer' for Novak to get the easier path.
I would always reply, why would I watch Djokovic play Almagro if I could watch him play Federer instead.
no matter how successful he may be and how many tournaments he might win, quality>quantity.

No surprise the fed turds want an easy draw for him.

It would be a nightmare draw if Rafa had to play Novak in the QF and then Fed gets to take the crumbs after they play for about 4 hours.

What they don't realise is Nadal played 5 hours against Verdasco and then still beat Fed in the final at AO09 despite it being on HC. Now, obviously Nadal is older, but he's not that old and Fed is also older as well. Not to mention RG is where Nadal's played his best tennis. I wouldn't be so sure if I was a fed fan that he'd be able to pick off Rafa in the SF if he has a long match against Novak in the QF.

They say the draws aren't rigged, but I would bet anything that they'd be trying to avoid having these 3 in the same half. There's so much more draw in having a Fed/Novak, Rafa/Fed or Rafa/Novak final than there is with a Murray or Ferrer in there.

Also a few of you are forgetting Del Potro, he could be a very dangerous opponent if Fed has to face him in the QF...

If Fed can get back to #2, I'd love to see Djoker, Murray, and Nadal in one half and Fed, Ferrer, Tsonga, and Del Potro in the other. Let those three beat up on each other and have Fed win RG.

It would be sweet because of the possibility of a huge upset and new FO champion.

    Think about it.

    Rafa takes out Roger.
    Novak takes out Rafa.
(insert name) takes out Novak because hes still exhausted from his 7 hour 5 set win over Rafa and mentally spent.

It's quite simple really, Federer is approaching 32 years, he's been beaten by Rafa five times at the FO and there's little to no chance that that will change.

Should he have won one, it should have been in 2011 (faster balls) or in 2007, 2006 or 2005. It's not gonna happen these days, not even if Djoko plays him hard in the quarters or semis first.
For one thing, the level is not there to grind it out. But neither is the belief.

As for Djokovic, he actually has a very decent chance of beating Nadal at the FO, so I can completely understand why you would want them to meet. For most Fed fans, beating Nadal at the FO is a dream that never came true.

If Nadal beats Djokovic the next three/four years in the final, I presume you might change your opinion (and I know he's beaten Djokovic quite a few times at the FO, but most of them were a different Djokovic).

Just because Roger lost to Djoker last year does it mean that Djoker is the overall better clay court player and that Federer will lose to him EVERYTIME.
You obviously did not understand my previous statement.

Fed fans need to understand that he is not unstoppable anymore, this season has been shocking.
I dont even know how any of you think he will win another slam. Especially not the French, This year his best shot is Basel.
Its really obvious Nole is the second best clay player. Come on is everyone blind !!!!!

Dude when did I say that Fed is unstoppable.Nobody is. What I was contending from all these discussions are 1st, if Djoker and Rafa are in the same quarter and Djoker beats Rafa, there is no guarantee that Djoker will definitely beat Federer just because of what happened last year. Obviously, Djoker has an upperhand right now but that does not mean that he will ALWAYS beat Federer from hereon.

Don't be in that silly bandwagon that Clarky made, that Djoker can never be beaten. Didn't you see recent results from IW and Miami Open ? And those are on hardcourts where he shows his best. He is more vulnerable on clay.

2ND, we're talking about Federer here. I'm not a Fedt@rd if you don't know yet, but he has 17 GS for crying out loud. And he can beat anybody on any given day. All I'm saying is, don't count out the old guy just yet. That goes the same for the Buttpicker and the Great Scottish pUSHER (as what the haters on this board say). They have proven their worth time and again. I'm not one with blind hate just like many on this board.

nice post, I wonder why would anyone call you a Fed ****.
So many people joined that Djokovic is gonna sweep everything bandwagon. Djokovic is very vulnerable on clay. Last year he was two sets down against Seppi and was match points down against Tsonga. I don't where these people get the notion that Djokovic is unstoppable on clay.

However, I do feel that this RG is for Nadal.

maybe it's my wishful thinking but if Djoker beats Rafa and plays Roger in next round, Federer will fight hard to get his second RG title. I don't say he will win but I am sure he will put up a better fight than 2012 RG semifinal

That must be why he made every clay masters final last year except for one, and also made the final of RG. Sounds very vulnerable to me. Lol.

I wouldn't say a "very decent" chance. Last year was pretty one-sided until the rain came, and again one-sided the next day. The two clay court finals they met at befoe RG were equally one-sided. I would say Djokovic has a pretty decent chance of winning a set, but that's about it. This is of course assuming Rafa is healthy and good to play.

Well, I'm one of those people, who think that Djokovic would have been the minor favourite, had he not got beaten in the 2011 FO semis by Fed.

Presuming Djokovic can regain some of his 2011-form, he's in with a very decent shot.
Maybe not 50-50 or even 40-60, but something like 30-70 as of now. That may go up or down from here, depending on how the clay season unfolds.

Djokovic needs absurdly heavy rain just to win a set, so I hope Nadal-Djokovic meet in the QF so Nadal can humiliate that fat-free pipsqueak, just like he did for the first 2 sets at last year's RG. Federer is actually a bigger threat to Nadal at Roland Garros than Djokovic is.
