do you have a 2nd favorite player that will take his place, or will you just follow tennis without a favorite? or will you stop following tennis altogether?

But obviously its going to take time for me to like someone as much as I like Roger.Roger will always hold a special place for me though.

Who said Federer was retiring in 2012? He certainly didn't.

Federer has not said he is retiring in 2012. Wishful thinking perhaps.

yeah, he still has to win the Gold at the Wimbledon olympics, no way he's retiring that soon!

    :)

not sure, don't really look forward to seeing him retire.

My favorite players after Fed are Sela, Gasquet, and Davydenko. This Dimitrov guy looks promising but I haven't heard anything about him lately.

Dimitrov is talented no doubt, but his movement / anticipation doesn't seem like a GOAT contenders.
I suppose he's still a teen, few more years and we'll see.

No, he has said he wants to play for many more years and, at least, until the 2012 Olympics. He has also said he and Mirka would like their children to see him play.

yeah their children are out of the womb so they can see him play now etc plus the longer he plays the worse his head to head with nadal gets until its like 10-30

Nadal's will be in a wheelchair by the time Federer retires. After that spanking by Nikolay in Shanghai and dropping a set to Blake the Nadal fan's are drinking some sour milk.

Maybe we'll have new stars which aren't well-known yet today.
Three years is a long time.

Yea I'm sure his few month old babies are watching him play, and I'm also sure that Federer's greatest care is his head to head with Nadal!

federer won't retire unless he is no longer competitive or if he suffers some kind of unrecoverable injury. those are big "IF"

This is what I think, too. Or a similar young, fluid one-hander with an all-court game and general good character traits.

Switching gears a bit to the guys who will be aging at that point, I feel I'll also be rooting for Tsonga and Rafa. And Murray.

i wouldnt mind it if tsonga and murray are doing well in 2012, they both play entertaining matches with nadal and nadal beat them both in most recent meetins

I'm a HUGE Federer fan but of course I'll continue watching tennis after Fed retires, what a troll question.

I'll be rooting for Rafa, Djoker and the others who provide me with excellent tennis. Will be interesting to follow Delpo also. And of course, hoping for lots and lots of young, new talented players to compete in the top10!

(but as a fan, most of all I wish for Fed to play untill I die, at least ;)

I like Tsonga and Nalbandian about as much as I do Federer, possibly more, but they're no spring chickens either and they'll be pretty old in 3 years, so hopefully I'll have found someone else to replace them.

Obviously, they would like their kids to have some awareness when they see him play. Regarding Nadal, Federer will probably end up outlasting him at the top.

so ? according to you he should retire right away ? It seems to me, that Fed cares less about his H2H than some of his (and Nadal's fans) on this board care.

+1 -- since 1962 or thereabouts when I first "watched" through the eyes of BBC radio commentators. There's always someone one feels an affinity for though I doubt there'll be another wunderkind in my lifetime. Maybe Dimitrov will come close.

15 Slams speak for themselves. Nadal's going to need luck to keep up.

I agree about the movement, but keep in mind he's still in junior mode. With the right trainning and attitude he can become a top player. It's still too soon to even be thinking about GOAT contenders though.

I really believe that there will be no one like Federer for at least the next 30 years. Nor will there be one like Nadal who can take him down.

There is no-one who can replicate the Federer brilliance, but I find Tsonga and Gasquet exciting to watch, so I hope they do well when Fed retires, if they outlast him of course!:)

Nadal's going to need a lot of luck to get within 5 or 6 slams of federer's current total.
