I know Andres beat me to the punch but he forgot to create a poll. Both Nadal & Federer have withdrawn due to fatigue. It's nice of Roger & Rafa to let somebody else to win.

tough call without Almagro, Fed and Rafa...Gonzo has a good draw, but this surface could be to slow for him, same for Ivan and Safin...really I don't know, I think I still pick Gonzo but I wouldn't bet on him ;)

I haven't looked much at the draw, but I might go with Ljubicic. Not the surface for him, but who else is there? Maybe Gonzalez.

No room for "others". You only have 10 options. I don't think Mr. "Others" has a chance. When was the last time an unseeded player won a Master Series event?

James Blake beats Andy Murray 6-3 6-3.Good win for Blake over Murray whose serve is pretty awful, Blake was breaking Murray's serve with ease.I would be interested in seeing a Nadal vs Blake matchup in clay even though Blake is not a clay-courter.

I don't think it will happen this year...Blake has to be in the same draw and has to go deep into RG to have a chance to meet Nadal

Blake wouldn't have a chance of even winning a set. It would be interesting to see what the odds would be on a clay court match up. Nadal would still be a heavy favorite on hard courts against Blake even though James has won the last 2 meetings. You have to beat someone several times before the lower ranked player becomes the favorite. Federer was the heavy favorite in all of his matches against Nadal before Sunday. The Rome final was the 1st time Federer was the underdog. When was the last time Federer was the underdog on any surface for that matter?

'03 Wimbledon vs Roddick. Fed's big match toughness was a question mark coming in(lost a lot of 1st Rounds in slams entering that event) Roddick just joined Gilbert, won Queen's, was serving 140,there was a lot of hype around him that event.
    Odds were close though.

WOW!! A very uncharacteristic match for Ljubicic. Oh well, again, this is the clay. Unranked players, underdogs, lucky losers etc. seem to spring forward on the clay. For instance, just at the FO, Costa winning FO '02, Verkerk making the FO '03 final, Gaudio winning FO '04, and Puerta making the final of FO '05.

So the last 16 looks like this:
    Ferrero-Ferrer
    Mathieu-Robredo
    Davydenko-Niemenen
    Ancic-Blake
    ---------------
    Gonzalez-Verdasco
    Grosjean-Acasuso
    G.Simon-Mirnyi
    Stepanek-Soderling

I can't think of a recent Masters event that was this wide open. With the top 2 missing and all the seed-upsets, every man standing is now thinking he has a chance and is v v hungry. Personally, Gilles Simon has been a revelation, along with Blake's sudden success on damp, spongy clay.

(OT but did anyone catch Gaudio's uh, display today? I burst out laughing along with everyone else, but you have to feel for him. *Such* a headcase.)
