if i had the power to seed the top 8 at NCAAs, they would be:

    1) UVA - obvious, undefeated and Indoors champs

    2) UCLA - 4-1 against my top 5, with a win over UGA and 3-1 against USC including last three meetings - which gives them a better blind resume than anyone except UVA, especially lately

    3) USC - 3/4 was maybe my only tough decision, having to weigh Ohio St's loss to A+M vs USC being UCLA's pigeon down the stretch - ultimately, even if the A+M loss was a long time ago for Ohio St, USC was 10-1 in completed matches vs A+M and I cannot put them below a team that lost to A+M - yes this means USC-UCLA in e/o's path again - oh well - not my fault PAC12 makes these guys play a million times every season

    4) Ohio St - only two losses (UVA and, as above, A+M upset a long time ago), and they beat UGA 5-2

    5) UGA - yes, best team in the deepest conference, but they have zero wins in their few matches against the above 4 teams - everyone else in my top 5 has a win against someone else in this bunch

    6) Pepperdine - only 5 losses, and their worst was to Duke - SOS worse than OU's per the texascollegetennis.com metric, but they make up for that with their 4-3 H2H win over OU at end of March

    7) OU - Big 12 tournie champs gives them a big bump in my book ('what have you done lately?' matters to me - thus Duke not being in my thoughts at all if I had the power to seed top 8 ) - even if they have an ugly loss to FSU (most teams at this point going down the rankings have an ugly loss or two, see my next team)

8 ) Baylor - I also thought about Tenn and A+M here due to tougher SOS in SEC, but Baylor is 2-1 against SEC with wins against UF and UK and only loss to Ole Miss, so I cannot fault them for not playing more against that caliber of team, they would have done just fine - despite an ugly loss to Tulsa very early in season, they finished strong winning 10 of 11, took the regular season Big 12 title, and had three convincing 6-1 wins over Cal, OU (regular season, even if they then lost in tournie rematch), and Texas

    1) UVa
    2) UCLA
    3) OSU just because I don't want USC/UCLA on same side of the draw again
    4) USC
    5) UGa
    6) Oklahoma
    7) Tennessee
    8) Pepperdine

Cardinal will most likely have to go thru Pepperdine to get to Illinois this year.

    1. U Virginia, until someone beats them, they deserve it.
    2. UCLA, because they have the best wins of the other 3.
    3. OSU, conference champions and win over Georgia to compensate for road loss at A&M.
    4. USC, maybe without the injuries, they could bump up to 3, but if this were basketball tourney the committee would not overlook recent losses and weakened lineup.
    5. Georgia, conference champions.
    6. Tennessee, has a better resume than anyone below them.
    7. Oklahoma, conference champs, with a strong impressive finish.
    8. Duke, yes I know a soft finish in the ACC, but capable of upsetting anyone above them.
On the Bubble, first 4 out Pepperdine, Baylor, Texas A & M, Wake Forest.

whoa hang on there. I know Wake beat Duke but they also recently lost to UNC, a team that won't make the tournament at all.

If Tennessee and Texas a+m combined the steadiness of tennessee's results with the upside of a+m...well, I would have found a spot for that Tennessee a+m team in my top 8

Tennessee has a lower ceiling than my top 8 I believe - as I expected it was a+m that proved to be a far greater challenge to the dawgs in the sec tournie, but the Aggies have been too all over the place with lots of losses this year - so a dangerous sleeper but not deserving of a top 8 seed

    I'd go with:
    1. UVA - Undefeated
    2. UCLA - Lone loss to a team that they subsequently beat three times.
    3. Ohio State - A fluky loss to TAMU, and a close one to UVA.
    4. Georgia - Haven't beaten a top 5 team, but they did win the best conference.
    5. USC - Injuries move them here.
    6. Tennessee - I think there's a gap between 5 and 6, but the Vols made the SEC final and did well in the conference regular season.
    7. Pepperdine - If there's any justice, the Waves will be a Top 8 seed. They're good.
    8. Duke - They obviously will not be here because it would put them on a collision course with the Hoos, but all the SEC teams that are in the running for this spot have some BAD losses.

UK, Ole Miss, TAMU and Miss State lost too many matches down the stretch. #14 OU doesn't get a bump into the top 8 for beating a team ranked #13.

When has the NCAA shifted the seeds around because of potential QF matchups? The only time they've done it is because of differences in rankings vs the headtohead win for teams that are 1 rank apart. In my memory, only the ita reschedules the draw for the team for in conference teams

    two comments -
    1) they didn't avoid putting Duke in the 8/9 collision course with UVA last year - though hopefully Duke ruined their chances of being in that spot by losing to Wake this year - hoping they're slotted 10-15

    2) i didn't bump up OU based on the ridiculous rankings where a bunch of SEC teams that lose all their matches (Ole Miss, UK, Miss St) are ahead of both OU and Baylor - i bumped them up for beating the team i consider the 8th best (Baylor) in their conf. tournie final - if i was following official rankings to guide my judgments i wouldn't have bothered with this thread, would have just waited for more Tuesday polls

feddie, since you're being a tool trying to take over a thread with stanford crap as usual, i'm going to respond like a jerk (sorry, epaige, this is for feddie, nothing against your son)

    he lost that match, badly

he has lost all three of his most recent matches, badly, winning only one set and losing the other six sets quite routinely, most with multiple breaks

he's not good at the moment, at all

    that's all
