Not really. Being an OTT armchair critic of players better than you isn't putting your money where your mouth is. You just don't seem appreciate or give credit to the graft involved with regular tournament play. And why would anyone travel to SF for 4.0 tennis? You can find 4.0 tennis anywhere.

You know, Mr.Torres, it's something you'd have to ask the other guys, who are travelling for WORK or play, but dropping into the SFBayArea, and want to hit a few.
There's a travel section here on TW's forums, look at it. Lots of guys looking for hitting partners within specific dates.
Sorry, I can't answer your question.
BTW, I played 3.5 singles tennis today after spending an hour and a half hitting with my friend's 8 and 6 year olds.
Would you believe adult mens 4.0 can hit harder than those kids? Both kids are into baseball, not tennis.,

    I just posted I played like a 3.5 today.
Last year, I posted I lost double bagels to both a 65 year old guy and a 5.0 30 year old.
Am I trying to win rounds in Q's?
I'll let you answer your own question. Obviously none.
But with that forehand, I'd get some points volleying there, staying at the service line, and volleying short angled or behind him.
And if I can win a point here and there, an admitted 3.5 on bad days, I think he is not the same level as most of the Q guys.
Almost every Q event, there is at least one other low 5 or high 4.5 trying to test his skills. He'd likely lose first round. Someone has to beat him. Blaze can beat him.

You're not 63, have ankle and knee problems, admitted you played like a 3.5, and going downhill.
I wonder how he can win a doubles match, since in doubles, it's easy to isolate a weak shot, like his forehand, and pound that side till the match ends.
His partner must be a great poacher and player.

I mean, to put it simply....

    Yeah.

A lot of people will realize how horrible they are when they watch a video of themselves, myself included. That's studying. Only then, your practice can focus on applying your conclusions from your studies.

Coaches are great because they can point things out without you needing a video. Too bad many of us just can't afford one. With today's technology, though, we can now coach ourselves!

I'm pretty sure, after 10 years of Q's, he's seen himself hit forehands and backhands.
Stubborness is the only answer. He will MAKE his forehand work for him. I'll bet he can lob really well, low flyers that clear the netperson's reach just barely, and land in the court. Slow high forehands to delay the game, cause boredom in his opponents, and more time for him to recover court position.
Instead of RHS, he practices SRHS, or slow you know.
Or is his right arm injured?
But if it works for him, more power to him.

john is an awesome guy. Ive been emailing him the past few weeks. I ordered some 'grinding' shirts from him too. He uses recycled paper to make them its kinda neat. Its probably cool to live the life he is living, but i am curious to see what will happen when it's all over.

PS theres a video of john meeting isner a few years ago to park his van in front of his house and him eating dinner at his house!

i don´t necessarily find it easy to isolate a weak shot in doubles. on the contrary i´ve had opponents who where able to run around a weak shot.

maybe it has something to do with calling himself johnnyblazed which is a lot different than just blaze. lol.

That vid doesn't look good but he was serving 6-7 so he can't be all that bad if he's getting a good 6 games at that level.

I think there's also another posted vid where Johnny won by bagels, or close to it.
In Q's, if you get 32 draw, there usually is at least one other 4.5 testing his skills. If you face him, you have a good chance to win.
Also, nowadaze it's a game of baseline bashing, so a loopy, slow forehand is not such a liability like it was in the days of S/V.
And most 5.5 would not take him seriously.

On that note, seriously, note that there is all kinds of laughing and joking in the background.
At that level, it's hard to take JV seriously.

Why can't Johnny Blaze represent U.S.?

Now that none of the U.S. men's players made it to the medal rounds, it would have been very entertaining to have Johnny Blaze represent U.S. at the Olympics.

Again, he's played seriously high level players close (Victor Estrella, current #193 in the world). I rest my case.

    I love Johnny B!

Met him at a Challenger here in Savannah,GA two years ago.

Got to drive him around downtown one night before he left and got to hear his story.

Hope he grinds on as long as he can! He's in excellent shape.

not just RPM blast, he's got a bunch of listings for half sets of used string. one of his auctions came up in my search results and I clicked to see what other items he has for sale. a couple of his 'GRINDER" tshirts (I actually think those are pretty cool and would be a great practice/workout shirt), a bunch of used string, new pair of shoes.

He's selling a lot of different half sets of strings. I guess people who want to "experience" these strings might buy them, though they might be already dead.

We have no doubt that prime for prime, he'd struggle to win games off you in singles and would have to push harder than Spinal Tap to eke out points in doubles. He does offer hope, though, to the low 4.5 pushers out there that they, too, can take three games off a player who has been ranked #28.

Nobody any good, like solid 5.5, would take JBlaze seriously, and would give some games just to laugh and goof off. You wouldn't know, because you were never that level.
I was a 4.5, I've said that many times, and in the two Q's I played at the TransAmerica qualifying, went 3 rounds. So I do speak from some experience. Not everyone in a Q is a solid D-1 player. Lots of people testing the waters.

I like the cut of this guy's jib! I hope he keeps grinding and doing what he loves, I would trade lives with him in a heartbeat. Faith in humanity restored! I don't know why everybody is bashing him about his game, who cares, the dude is loving life and doing what he wants. That's enough to make him A-ok in my book.

He's definitely good, but you can only go far playing a defensive style like that. Once you play against guys who can set up points very consistently, you're never going to win unless they have a horrible day.

Would you believe I've never had problems getting chicks?
My total income since 1964 is 92,000.
Most of my g/f's make more than that in one year.....

Oh how wrong. He can get a TON of chics being the way he is. Women want to meet interesting guys, and not the same they see everyday or work with. Besides, if he's just looking for shags its perfect.
Compare him to a guy who works in a bank and makes $80k/year. What is that guy going to brag about to a girl? His bank account? car? house? All material things. On the other hand Blaze can brag about how he's following his dream, being self-sufficient, working hard for something he believes in. Huge ice breaker, something different. It doesn't matter if he's not yet successful in what he does. He has a plan, he's sticking to it, he knows what he wants and its something completely different than what anyone else is doing, thats what makes it unique and interesting. That's what women look for. After that it's easy. I mean just look at the attention he gets on here, and you're all guys. Case in point.
