You know players don't wear sleeveless JUST to show off their arms...

Maybe he finds them more comfortable? How self conscious do you have to be to care more about how you look in something than how it feels.

because if he has long and skinny arms it would mean sleeves would be bagging around a lot and possibly be uncomfortable, unless he got a really tight shirt
and i figure sleeveless looks better than a really tight shirt.

Wow that picture prove it. Del Potro is a beast!

At night I have to assure my little sister that there are no such things as Del-Potros under the bed. :)

they actually arent when you have long arms, when sweat soaks into the shirt and it starts sticking on the shoulder and pulling on your arms during serves and extended volleys. i wear sleeveless in every tourney because of that fact, and i have zero buf***e to show off

dont become one of the women users on the forums who drool over guys in sleeveless shirts, they were until now the only ones mentioning such things.

    Del Potro

I do not understand why he wears those clothes. He looks like he is waiting to put on some leather pants and hit up the go go club. But he has been playing great tennis lately.

Have you ever seen the man sweat? Since he is an athlete as opposed to a model, I think a long-sleeved turtleneck would be a tad inappropriate.

Why does DelPo wear sleevless shirts?

    Let's face it.
    He's not the brightest.
He didn't prepare for the hot hard court season by getting in shape, and working out in FLA like Murray.
It just never occurred to him that it gets hot in summer, and he may again be playing all week to the finals, just like he got hot last summer.
Obviously it also hasn't occurred to him that playing with sleeves, collar and hat are going to protect more of his skin from the sun, leading to more heat exhaustion, dehydration, and an inability to drag himself through a third set, if it arises.
    What do you expect?

I do have to give him credit, though.
He looked like he could have easily just defaulted in the third set in Montreal.
He hung in there to take his beating, even though he obviously detests Murray, because the fans deserved a third set, and a chance to see some of his serves and wicked go for broke forehand.

Certainly explains how he won Washington, winning 3 three set matches as well as two third set tiebreakers

Del Potro and Roddick agreed on his tactics in Washington:
“It was very difficult,” del Potro said. “After the first set I couldn’t move anymore. It was impossible. It was serve and one more ball. If you run, you die.”
“Today was brutal,” Roddick said. “He was rolling the dice a lot. He played high-risk tennis and he connected. To go for as much as he was going for late in the match and not have any errors to show for it, that was the difference.”

My guess is that JM del Potro wears the sleeveless because his shoulders are so big. Either that or to avoid that tacky tan line!

    It's for comfort.

I wear both sleeved and sleeveless shirts. When I wear a sleeved shirt, I pull up the sleeves a lot especially when it is soaked from perspiration. Kind of annoying. With sleeveless, this doesn't happen. So, I vote for comfort.

But during practice with no women to offend/scare, I just go shirtless. :) No, it's not to show off. Just more comfortable. No sweaty fabric to pull and constantly readjust plus the cooling effect of the breeze without the shirt really helps.

Chances are, the NIKE marketing team that works with Del Potro probably pitch the idea of him wearing the sleeveless shirt to give him an image. Del Potro is not a flashy personality by his own, so they probably felt he needed to a little something for people to remember him by. Personally I think Del Potro would be better off having a more classic image, very much like Federer.

It's not the first time NIKE marketing team made a questionable call on imaging a tennis star, remember Nadal's pink outfit, better yet, remember Federer's entrance outfit at Wimbledon?

well, he does wear the entire nike ensemble (headband, sleeveless, shorts, sox, shoes), and i'm sure he gets paid big bucks to do so, although I'm not sure how many years he has been doing so .... all I know is that he was doing it when I first saw him at the L.A. tournament in 2008. (Delpo's shoulders are bigger now than they were then.)

Totally disagree with the "classic" approach (Nadal's ranking went down after he took the classic approach ;)) because Delpo's shoulders are some of the best on the tour. Besides, he's only 20 years old! If you got it, flaunt it!! Accentuate the positive!!! :D
