"Head" is from Mr. Howard Head. -- If I'm not wrong.

Head was originally a ski company, founded in 1948 by Howard Head, an amazing inventor and engineer who revolutionized two sports. He invented the laminated ski in 1954 and then branched out into tennis racquets. Later on he sold the company and started working for the Prince tennis ball machine company (named for its location in Princeton, NJ) where he redesigned their machines and even more significantly invented the oversize racquet and designed the revolutionary Prince Graphite frame in the 1970's, now the revered Prince Original Graphite. The rest is history.
