I think he is tougher than Nadal mentally when it comes to these dogfights.
How does he keeping closing out these matches in his favour all the time?

Great physical skill set, stamina and strength that fuels his mental strength, combined with a gunner's mindset when he's backed in a corner--under pressure he swings out very well and rarely surrenders meekly. It's hard not to love Novak for his fighting spirit.

    Absolutely right.

I add that he knows that he has the capabilities to beat anybody anytime in any moment of the match. It was very clear during the match with Wawrinka. Djoker knew he could win anytime, Wawrinka had always doubts.

    Belief, Mental toughness.

After beating fed twice at the US OPEN in 5 sets, saving match points on one occasion, i mean Fred is only like the GOAT, beating Nadal in 6 hours in a grandslam final, things like this explain why Djoker is so darn tough to beat in a 5 set match, he has the belief, Fred has matchpoint on Djokovic at the US OPEN semi's in 2011, and Djokovic just smacked a serve for a winner down the line, you'll notice whenever his down match point or break point, he goes all out and amazingly he rarely hits an unforced error, he almost always saves break points, he just has so much belief that he'll come through, and that is going to go a LOOOOOOOOOOOONG way, it already has as we've seen.

I think everyone knows intellectually that the momentum of a match can change very quickly, sometimes with one stroke. He also believes this in his heart, he's internalized this somehow, IMHO.

Of course his talent and fitness are a given.
Have to add his Gumby-like flexibility will help keep him from injuries.
