We now can consider Djokovic winning the Australian slam as given. The relevant hypothetical question is if Djokovic win all four Slam this year, will Djokovic surpass Federer slam count at some point?

The possibilities are not hard to imagine given Djokovic flawless defense and striking offense ability now and in the next three years. Plus the cvac machine for quick recovery, it it hard to see anyone beating him in a 5 set match.

    WE CAN?!!?

Gosh... He is in the semi final (WITH SEEDS 2 & 3 STILL IN THE COMPETITION) of the first slam, so clearly it's time to start postulating on him getting the full boat.

    I give up.

I think Federer's gonna stick around as long as he can to make sure that doesn't happen. Djoker won't make any progress at the French as long as Nadal is around. Murray's been pretty strong too.

It's all going to depend on how long Nadal's knees hold up and when Fed finally decides to let go, which I don't see happening anytime soon.

He probably won't pass the slam count. Even if he wins all four this year.

What I've seen from Djokovic makes me doubt him winning the AO more than I did before the tournament.

Djoker started peaking too late, and in too strong of an era. 2 all-time greats are swimming in these waters, and they've cost him a chance at the slam record. About 20 slams until he turns 30, he'd have to win at least 10-12 of those to put him in position to snag it post-30. It's not impossible, but I reckon with his style of play, he won't be able to maintain Nole 2.0 for 5+ years.

Like he was going to win the Grand Slam in 2012? Yup, that didn't work out either.

Even if he wins 2/year he still needs 6 years just to tie Federer. It's not going to happen.

Murray just won the USO and has shed the never won a slam weight.

The pressure is off and he did well last year against Novak..and I think he has what it takes to win the AO this year.

next time Murray will feel pressure at a slam is going to be wimbledon because the press in the UK will be hyping it like crazy after last year.

Yep. It's going to be funny when it happens too. The hissy fits thrown by the very same *******s that were rooting for him endlessly against Nadal will be legendary.

Djokovic's main role in the history books now is being Federer's main tail-gunner to prevent Nadal catching Federer.

    It's working.

If Murray doesn't live up to his potential, then Djokovic might win many slams.

Thanks to the cvac machine for quick recovery, the sky is the limit for the Serb.

Even if he wins calendar slams the next 3 years, he'll only be tied with Federer.

    Let's get real.

That's an awful lot of full stretches turning his ankles and 5 set wins against inspired opponents. And he'll be 28 1/2 when it's all over.

This is a ridiculous thread, I'm as big a Nole fan as any but how can he make up 12 slams ( potentially more if Fed were to win more )

2 slams a year for the next 3 plus a couple more in post prime puts him at 13 and that already assuming his level doesn't fall off . 10 looks like a more realistic goal.

What Nole could so is surpass Fed at AO .

No. He hasn't even won 1/3 of the amount, and when Fed was his age he had 10 majors compared to 5 for Novak now.

Never say never, I suppose, but I'll be very, very surprised if it happens. I sort of doubt it's even something Novak thinks is realistic. I have a feeling his goals for himself are probably smaller and more realistic like making sure he wins the French at some point, ending the year at #1 a few more times, etc.

Federer had already won 8 majors before he turned 25. Djokovic is 26 in a few months and will likely still have 5 majors. Factor in their different playstyles and you realise that when Djokovic ages he will be in the same position Nadal is in after all that mileage takes effect.

You mean can he win another 13 majors aged 26+? Can he win another 13 majors = almost as many as Sampras managed in his ENTIRE CAREER?

    I mean, really?

Oh I thought that everyone would share the same opinion. I mean while Novak has the 1 hour 30 minutes cakewalk with Ferrer.
On the other side Federer would have a prolonged battle with Murray which would pretty much leave the winner depleted and unable to pose any serious challenge to Mr. Serbian Muhammad.

It is not like any one of these two processing the cvak's machine, isn't it ?

    In your wet dreams, buddy.

    Glorified exhibition.

Djoker has a long way to go and he really isn't even on track to break Fed's record. It isn't a big deal though, he is still very successful.

He has already surpassed Nadal on hard. He will never surpass him on clay. Fed's overall records on hard and grass are quite out of reach even for Djoko. Djoko is not even close at USO but I have a little hope Djoko can surpass Fed at AO and he has a better winning % in masters as well.
