The 19-year-old issued his unsolicited opinions about the Federer game in August:

"I think if he (Federer) had a little more fight right now, it would help him get back to the top. With all players except for Nadal and Novak Djokovic, he plays with a swagger - but not against them.

"Against them he's a little more uncertain. If he walked out with a little more fire, then I think it would help him."

Easier said than done, but a very good point indeed.

Roger's lack of swagger has something to do wiht the psyche against these two. Kid Ryan is not wrong completely.

I agree. I think it's very observant. If a guy ranked outside the top 50 can see it, then why can't Roger?

Heh, I like Ryan, hope to see more of this kid. He has a point though I think Fed's body language was very confident against Novak in 2011 FO and against Nadal in WTF RR but those are more the exeptions I guess.

It's not something you can force I think, Fed just feels less confident against those two guys, for a good reason of course.

Lendl will be getting the boot and Murray will be hiring Ryan, that's for sure. Wow what killer insight from one so young and talented.

The reporter's question was: "Most other stars of the game like Federer and Borg started out their careers with firey tempers, then mellowed out of it. Think you will be like that?"

It's a shame that insight isn't going to get him any big silverware in his career. le sigh.

I'm American and proud of our list of past world open era champions including: Mac, Connors, Samprass, Agassi, Courier, Roddick, Bryan Bros, ETC. They have all done us proud and are all worthy of the praise and respect that they have earned.

I also see in Ryan Harrison potential and largely un-matured talent but I also think he would be wise to use judgment when speaking in public. His opinions are fine and may have some validity but that is somewhat negated in this particular case by his lack of credentials.

If Roger decided to publicly squash Ryan Harrison he could do so with swift, unforgiving vengence. All Roger would have to do is display a dislike for Ryan (doesn't matter the reason) and the media machine would, in the space of a heartbeat, be Ryan's number one enemy.

It would be completly different if Ryan was discussing an upcomming junior player or if it were Johnny Mac expressing his opinion. Ryan is no Johnny Mac at this point. (I didn't read the full exerpt of Ryans comments but I can't picture why he'd feel prepared to make suggestions for a player like Roger)

I think as someone pointed out, it is easier said than done. It's very difficult to have a swagger when all of your best shots keep coming back when you play against those two :(

You do not "show" that swagger. That comes with confidence. He lacks confidence and faith agianst him and so the shulders slump, eyes cast down and so on and so forth.....

Why would Fred listen to Ryan, when he hasn't to advice from our sages and experts like namelessone and suresh.

Yeah, i have always thought that Fed shud play with more agression. He shudnt just bottle everything up and stay cool and calm throughout the match. Shud show some emotion. i guess its becuz he doesnt want the titles with the same passion as he did before

In the Davis Cup matches, Federer clearly unnerved by Harrison's bench presence.

My respect for Ryan has suddenly gone up. He could just avoid saying it but he put his on the way and told as many people think it is too.

You don't need to be the former GOAT or some kind of sage to give your own take. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

In reality this is what everyone has been saying, backhand, aggressiveness, mental strength. Now he just needs to take care of the last one.
