Could this be last chance saloon for Tsonga???

He took advantage of a great draw and has a good chance to reach the Semis. This isn't the big 4 era anymore so more chance than ever. Except for that guy Nole he still remains tough as ever and is in the way. But Tsonga and Nole have a great rivalry so you never know...

Cilic in the QFs, Allez!

If he gets past Cilic and Djokovic, and doesn't face Fed or Murray, I'd say he has as good a chance as anyone. Stanimal vs Stronga would be an interesting final. Stan wasn't Stanimal during their RG SF, but if Stan plays at his AO/RG peak level, then Stronga might find him difficult to overcome. Or we might witness Stronga 2.0.

I think the French, because he's French.

He made the Semifinal this season and lost a close 4 setter to Wawrinka and made Semifinal in 2013.

He's 30, which is the new 28 apparently, so he's got maybe 2 more seasons of contention.

He has a chance against chilly chill.
Slim chance against c-vac.
Puncher's chance against a stan, murray or a roger in the final.

As much as I would love un Tslam pour Jo, it is not likely in the cards, n'est-ce pas?

Agreed^

Allez Jo!

Tsonga has a tchance in Tchatrier, Tlaver arena, Tcentre court, and maybe even Tflushing Tmeadow.

In 2017, my associates and I will be working on an atp tour stop in the beautiful and prosperous city of Nuku'alofa. Hoping to get this established before Jo retires. Btw, Nuku'alofa is the capital of Ttonga.

Tsonga is one of the guys I would love to see win a slam. In recent history RG is where he's had the better success, SF in 2013 and 2015. Lost 4th round to Djokovic in 2014 however at the time he wasn't playing his best. I watched the match with Baghdatis and he got better as it progressed but to be honest sometimes he is slow to start in his matches and that can cost him. I still believe he too reliant on 1st serve. Off the ground, particularly backhand side he can be exploited by the top guys. There are actually quite a few guys on tour that have a better backhand than Tsonga, even those ranked outside the top 20 and 30. That is seriously worrying if you are trying to win a slam.

^Accurate assessment there^
He starts poorly, then gets on a roll, often with unnecessary pressure on his first serve. Same with Marco.

But, Jo is so much better than his technique. His movement, his willingness to come forward and attack....reminds me of a young Boris. I just wish this kid had learned a decent looking backhand. He uses too many levers as he crowds it. he seems to muscle it at times, too. Wish that left wing had been more heavily influenced by a Nalbandian, Agassi, rios, or a Safin...maybe a Guga.

That was the last chance. Funny he went quite close at last Wimbledon too. Was a set away from beating Murray in that QF. Path would then have been Berdych (Mug form), Raonic.

Yes, i remember the match with Muzzer at Wimbledon.
It showed Jo's power, and frailty .... and of course Murreh showed great resolve and movement.
Ultimately this is why Jo is at best a grand slam threat, not quite a grand slam contender.
I do like his tsimpler, platform stanced tserve.

Allez Jo! Not a bad run to the quarters. Here's to a good Wimbledon this summer.

Krajicek, after defeating Sampras in the quarterfinals, had to face multi champions, surface specialists and deep era'ists like Washington, Martin and Stoltenberg.

Tsonga, after defeating Federer in the quarterfinals, only had to win through Murray, Nadal and Djokovic.

If he couldn't win with such a draw, no chance.

Tso, evidently Jo Tsonga still has a lot of good fight in him.
Weak start. He was overwhelmed.
Fought very hard, then tServed really well in the fifth.
Sad for Shapo, though.
Allez Jo!

Man what happened to Tsonga recently?

He was a such an exciting player to watch and had all the talent in the world to win slams, but unfortunately, he's seems to be another casualty of playing in the big four era.

However, when the Frenchmen was on his game, he can make even the greatest look bad. A couple examples I can think of would be the 2008 AO Semis where he destructively blew Rafa off the court and the last three sets of the 2011 Wimbledon Quarters where he made Fed (the grass GOAT) look completely helpless.

You mean going through Murray, Nadal and Djokovic (3 champions) was easier as compared to the likes of Washington, Martin and Stoltenberg?

Beating Murray should be no more difficult than beating say, Roddick.
