I bought a reel of 16g for $30. It would just be fiscally irresponsible to ignore this deal.

Strung at 66/64, it feels a bit too high in a speed mp. It wasn't uncomfortable, but totally powerless, which wasn't all that surprising.

I predict about three more hours out of it. Updates to come.

I've heard that This and Prince Synthetic Gut Original are the exact same string? Someone said that they acquired the patent for the production method when Prince lost it. Is that true?

I can't validate that statement, but I can tell you that Prince Synthetic Gut w/o duraflex feels extremely similar to Wilson Extreme Octane, so it may be plausible.

Strung at 66/64, a main snapped after 3 hours of play. Would not recommend stringing that high unless you have a OS.

I strung it in a Wilson Six One Tour 90 at 55/53 and it feels identical to the prince setup I had prior.

It was probably me you heard that from. It is true that they are the same strings. I even confirmed it. When Prince filed for bankruptcy, is when they obtained the patent from Prince.

Haha you are nuts. Prince didnt lose anything in their bankruptcy procedure. It was a restructuring. Wilson made that sh*t string for years before the Prince bankruptcy event

Wilson extreme is a different string from Octane so you are wrong there. I doubt they lost a patent, but I have no idea. Prince could have also just sold some patents if the needed liquidity. I would think that would be more likely.

I don't know who posted about it, but I definitely read something about it on the boards. It was around the time that the actual patent information for the string make-up was posted as well.

According to my Wilson rep, the patent expired around the same time that Prince was going through bankruptcy. No purchase or license required.

So it's a 100% that Extreme Octane is the same as PSG original?

My rep said that Synthetic Gut Power (formerly Extreme Octane) is the same as Prince Synthetic Gut with Duraflex. I don't recall PSG Original having the two lighter colored bands going around it, so that seems right to me.

I realized that I have both strings (16 gauge, white), so I took a picture. See for yourselves:

Wilson Synthetic Gut Power is on top of Prince Synthetic Gut with Duraflex. The Wilson string is slightly more transparent, and has a slightly slippery coating, which makes stringing even easier. The construction appears to be identical.

The two strings are reflecting different light sources; the Wilson string isn't actually slightly orange compared to Prince.
