I would like some opinions/advice on this racquet. I just picked up 2 of these and would like to hear from some valued members if they have any experience with this frame. Any string setup suggestions? Any reviews of how you played with it? Is there any pro's still using this frame? Thanks TT members.

IMO, one of the best rackets ever made; if you can handle the weight and stiffness, it can certainly be a "weapon" of choice. I wonder if Mardy Fish uses this racket under the guise of a paintjob?

AFAIK, Mardy uses the 6.1 Classic Stretch 18x20 and Delpo the Hyper 6.1 Euro 18x20 but not stretched, if that's even possible.

The part about Fish is correct. The DelPo part I'm not sure about. He has big hands and the grip just looks longer than that of a standard length frame. I know there was a HPS 6.1 Tour which was standard length, 18x20, and weighed 12.8 stock. Maybe that's what he's using. As far as current pros, I know this frame has a large following on the doubles tour. Pay attention to any 6.1 user out there on the ATP and see if the frame is extended. Chances are this is what's under the paint.

To the OP, if you won these framed last night on the big auction site, you bought them from me. I've been stringing them with Gosen OG Sheep Micro 17. I got great feel from that. It was the first extended frame I've used, and found adjusting to be quick with my serve, volley, and backhand. Serves were quicker and my kick serve jumped higher. Volleys had more gumption behind them. Forehands took some adjustment but slightly earlier preparation helped greatly.

I decided to sell because I've found I play better with a lighter frame, but there's no denying the Stretches pack a punch. After figuring out my forehand I was hitting bigger than I have in years.

    That guy

Yes it is I that brought the 2 racquets. I'm just a racquetholic. My usually racquet is a Yonex V Core 89. I has used a BLX Juice Pro earlier in the year and assumed the Stretch would be similar. Your racquets are in good hands and will be stripped to the bone and get new grommets, buttcaps, leather grips, and poly string.

I have this racquet hanging on my wall, it is magic. Probably the best wilson I've ever hit with IMO. I have it strung with kirschbaum super smash spiky and multifilament and its good. I am not a user of xl length racquets though. I plan on selling it in the future. It is used by a lot of players, maybe not the actually hyper carbon, but the 18x20 27.50 mold.

I liked the Hyper PS 6.1 Stretch a lot and it would probably have been my racket of choice at the time if not for my all-time favorite from Wilson the Hyper PS 5.0.

    5.0 vs 6.1

Why is the HPS 5.0 better than the 6.1?

Terrible frames. Dump them as fast as you can. In fact, I'll help you out & take them off your hands right now. Honestly, you should be paying me as I'm doing you a service.

    My pleasure...

But seriously, I used this frame for ~ 3-4 years back in the early 2000s. Great stick. I loved it, and would rank it up there as one of my 3 favorite frames (Babolat Pure Control + 'swirly' and Yonex RD Power 10 Long being the other two).

These were the pre-poly days, so I used a thin gauge kevlar (Gamma's Extreme Spin 19) in the mains @ 56lbs & 17g gut crosses @ 60lbs. I'd love to get my hands on one of those today & see how it plays w/ gut mains & poly crosses.

Haven't played these rackets in over a decade so bear with me. I believe the stretch versions had a different string pattern (18 M's?) than the standard in both the HPS 6.1 and 5.0. I preferred the length and string pattern on the standard length rackets because I felt the stretches were a little sluggish and I remember the sweetspot feeling higher up on the stringbed already without the length. I remember both teh 6.1 and the 5.0 both feeling rock-solid, comfortable, easy to put spin on the ball but it was the stiffness of the 5.0 that made it stand out. That thing in the right hands was an absolute beast.

    Grommets

Since I got a couple of ex users with expereience posting back, I have a question. What grommets would fit the HPS 6.1 stretch? ANy current grommets? BLX 6.1 with 18x20 pattern?

Yes current 6.1 18x20 grommets work.
