I haven't seen it online yet. I only saw it in a video of a Wilson rep presenting the new 6.1 lineup, and he held up the tape package when talking about the 'customization stripes' in the paintjob.

Tungsten is denser than lead and it's not toxic.

O...k...? Get your readily available lead tape, layer them if you need it.

Toxicity? Are you kidding me? Having lead tape on your frame is about as carcinogenic as the accumulated sun exposure during a lifetime.

You're talking about things that most of us know but it still doesn't change the fact that Tungsten is probably a better material to work with.

I know the Babolat is on sale but I'm also wondering if the Wilson brand has something designed for use on the 2014 models.

So... off brand weighing options don't work on the 2014 models? Got it, that makes sense.

I didn't know those chicken scratch squiggly lines weren't designed to work with existing lead tapes.

I didn't know Wilson paint is only compatible with Wilson adhesive.

Even small quantities of lead are very dangerous for children as it can severely impact their learning ability. I have young children I take to the court and I would not want to risk anything by using lead.

I heard that 2 grams of tungsten tape is better than 2 grams of lead tape. It will improve your NTRP rating by a hair.

It's like you want to be called an ***.

Wilson designed the 2014 model paint jobs with customizers in mind, they might have also designed the tungsten in a way to facilitate the process even more.

Not really, but myself, like so many other who have been leading up their frames for who knows how long tend to be practical, and use a ruler and/or a scale if we want to measure how much weight to put onto our frames.

We don't need no markings drawn by some 4 year old on the side of our racquets to add weights.

Hey, so what happens when you have put lead into/onto the handle, or at 12 o'clock? Must be a head scratcher since there aren't no squiggly lines there, right? What about the 10 and 2 o'clock spots?

I doubt anyone would actually use the markings on the racquet to measure and cut whatever length of lead/tungsten they were going to use ;)

One potential problem with weighting with tungsten is the concentration of weight in a much smaller area due its higher density. Using lead, weight may be evenly distributed over a larger area using a single layer, or concentrated by applying multiple layers in a smaller area. I have not seen the Wilson product, so maybe they have a way of addressing this.

So far as worrying about the toxicity of lead on a tennis racquet, I do not see the risk factor. Our "nanny" society has really made some people go overboard with these concerns -- specific real-world applications and associated risk seem to have been left out of the equation.

That's something that came to mind since I doubt they would make the tungsten strips thinner to match the weight of lead tape in the same length.

I don't care about the toxicity, I merely mentioned it because the material can be hazardous.

Oh NOW you don't care about toxicity? What's next, density goes out the window too?

If you want to tat up your Wilson frames with more Wilson logos, just say it. Nothing wrong with it.

Yes i will used it.those tungsten tapes have numeric markings on them for consumers to work with. Heavier density just mean that you required less strips and less time customize your racquet. It is particularly useful when you decides to apply it during or just before any social games. When you talk about toxicity , players are safe, while people that work as stringers would be a different story.

i re-read this thread title many times, i interpret it as 'Will you use the new wilson tungsten tape?"

Thus, i have no ideas why certain legends can read this thread as " wilson's tungsten tape for 2014 lineup of racquet is a joke. Discuss."

(sorry, i am not a legend yet.)

Regarding the bolded text above, this has a direct effect of weight distribution options.

My best guess is that he probably has young kids and never thought about the danger of lead for children so now he tries to ridicule those who did think about it.

Studies are currently ongoing on toxicity of tungsten. There were some clusters of childhood leukemia associated with high tungsten blood levels in the western US. No conclusions have been drawn as yet.

while i won't disregard the toxicity issue, it is very minimal. try not the chew it like gum and you should be ok.

having said that, it seems like lead tape is more easily obtainable (golfers also use it), more universal and since less dense, might be more useful as chotobaka mentions.

the tungsten looks ok, but it seems like i heard of issues with the adhesives?
certainly that's fixable, but the lead tape i use sticks like gorilla snot.

I used the Wilson tungsten tape. No problem sticking, has good tack, but is thicker then lead tape.

I don't always customize my frames. But when i do, i use tungsten.

Kidding, i customize all my sticks. I used to use lead for the head and silicone for the handle. Now i just use gorilla snot. Topically.

and to that mo*on with asian nickname above in this thread:

lead is serious toxic metal that stays in your body and you cant get rid of it so the concentation grows over the years, when you or kids touch it with sweaty hands (lead is VERY soft) so it leaves traces on your hands and it can easilly reach your lips for examle when you stir off sweat and you lick your lips and whoa - some lead gets in!

    Actually you're incorrect.

The biological half-life of lead in blood and soft tissues is 20-30 days.
However lead in bones has a half-life of 10-20 years.

For people who are not exposed (work environment) to lead about 90% of it is in the bones.

Say what now? Yeah because all tennis players are at higher risks at developing non-skin-related cancer than others right? All from that insignificant exposure to the carcinogenic lead? Oh dear god, look at all that lead on my frame! Myself, and everyone else with exposed lead must be cutting decades away from their lifespans.

Son, I worked in labs at Stanford and UCSF to study tumorigenesis and local environmental stimulants for transforming a somatic cell into a de-differentiated cell, the mutations necessary to acquire a metastatic trait, the immuno-"masking" required to establish a new site.

Who's the mo*on now? Since you like calling people out as mo*on, you better show me more. Show me what you know about genomic instability and maintenance. I want to make sure the lab I was in aren't missing anything and let them know of your in-depth knowledge on the subject matter. Come on, drop some knowledge on me, it may just help the lab advance healthcare that much quicker. Otherwise, stop talking.

Everyone should replace their lead tape with tungsten tape,
just out of spite against Professor Ma Suk Dong.

Funny how in every online discussion, one contestant always turns out to be a certified professional
with over 75 years of experience. Oh you wise one, since you probably also have three PhD degrees in metallurgy,
can you also enlighten us about that whole business involving thermite, planes crashing into buildings and the
temperature at which steel really melts when exposed to burning jet fuel? Come on, don't be shy, give it a shot!

Say you now what, you know? Otherwise, mind your own business. Better yet, since you love lead so much,
    go chew some lead tape.

Learn to read, did I advocate people to chew on their lead tape? I'll sum it up for you, it's insignificant to impact your health.

    It is not that.
I do not understand why you care so much what kind of material people
want to use to customize their rackets.
You act like you own a company that manufacturers lead tape, and you
need to prevent lead-panic so that the tungsten tape manufacturers
do not steel your market share.

Besides, if you want to be in the cool club, you need to customize your
racket with strips of 24 karat gold tape, like the Monaco billionaire yacht
    boys or Dubai sheiks. :)

^^^ Yeah sure, I make a killing on the these lead tapes. Because you know, I get to charge so much for this accessories, and everyone uses these lead tape on a sport that takes up a huge market share.

First of all, I've already backed out of this "argument" a while back. Whatever OP uses is his/her business, I just thought the search for Wilson specific tungsten tape was not worthwhile based on the alternative options and the fact that tennis-related-lead toxicity is not as potent as OP believes. But OP can believe whatever s/he wants to. Thus, backing out of the this thread. But this isn't even about what OP anymore.

Then, this Ricki fool comes in here and calls me out? Like I said, I've left this thread already and if some is going to call me out, escalate things, and act accusatory towards me? Boy you better bring it.

Whenever the issue of lead toxicity comes up I like to bring up the fact that pro players whose livelihood and careers depend on their health have had lead tape sitting on their frames for decades now. If pro players and their entourage of health and fitness professionals are not worried about it then breath into a paper bag and sit with your head in between your knees--you will be fine.

Let me make it easy for you fellas. Tungsten tape does not stick to the racket long enough to be considered as a good repalcement. When the manufacturers of Tungsten tape can make the product stick to the frame as long as lead, I will make the switch.

why would tungsten not stick as well as lead? The sticky surface has nothing to do with the material that ads weight. They can just use the same 'stick' they use on the lead tape

Well now that the super rude D-bag says he's left this thread has anyone actually used the Wilson tungsten tape and if so does it have the same tackiness issues that the Babolat tape has? I tried the Babolat and it was horrible.

    Use STEEL tape! It's cheaper

and NOT toxic, but it IS lighter, so you need a little more of it. since lead tape is like $6 for a small package, I use steel tape, bought from a hardware store like Lowe's or Home Depot, for $7 on a roll that has enough for a dozen racquets or so!
It say's "made from locally sourced recycled materials" on the package, too!

I like the steel tape idea, will try it out.

The trouble with tungsten is it's too heavy, like said before. I would only use it in the butt cap.
