Why is Roger man with 6 Wimbledon titles 3 seed?
This is outrage, who decides to put Djokovic seed above Roger.
I thought Wimbledon was only smart tournament that doesn't seed by dumb ATP ranking program that give free Davis Cup points to Djokovic for team win.

First time Fed hasn't been seeded No.1 (apart from '09 - but Nadal withdrew...).

I must admit, it is a little surprising he's below Djokovic - though it doesnt make a great deal of difference in reality.

As per the Wimby website, the rules for working the mens seedings out have been as such since '02...

    MEN
Since 2002, a seeding committee has not been required for the Gentlemen's Singles following an agreement made with the ATP. The seeding order is determined using an objective and transparent system to reflect more accurately an individual player's grass court achievements. The seeds are the top 32 players on the ATP Entry System Position (ESP), then rearranged on a surface-based system as follows:

Take ESP points at 13 June 2011

Add 100% points earned for all grass court tournaments in the past 12 months

Add 75% points earned for the best grass court tournament in the 12 months before that.

The main "beneficiaries" of the system this year are Frenchmen Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Michael Llodra. The former is currently ranked No.19 in the world but is seeded No.12 here by dint of his quarter-final appearance at The Championships, 2010 and his run to the final of Queen's last week (where on both occasions he was defeated by Andy Murray). Lefty serve-and-volleyer Llodra meanwhile won Eastbourne last year, and rises from No.25 in the ATP rankings to No.19 seed here, despite being on relatively poor form since losing two confidence-sapping rubbers in France's Davis cup final defeat to Serbia last December.

What is the difference between being 8th and 9th?

Glad to see Roddick get the 8th seed

...and here's to hoping for another Top 4 semi's, a la Roland Garros!

It'll be interesting to see how the Williams sisters get on also.

Is the answer "one place"? :)

Being 8th seed means you're drawn to play someone ranked 25-32 in R3 as opposed to 19-24. Also means you're drawn to play someone ranked 9-16 in R4 as opposed to 1-8.

difference between 8 and 9 is huge.

8 means you get a whole section of scrubs.

9 means you are one of those scrubs.

    Haha, nice....

Well I think Andy needs all the protection against the higher seeds that he can get....

if Andy can serve his way into the tournament, get a few routine matches under this belt, then maybe he can make a QF or deeper run again...

This could turn out to be a pretty big difference it means in Round 3 Roddick would play one of:

25 Juan Ignacio CHELA (ARG) [25]
    26 Guillermo GARCIA-LOPEZ (ESP) [26]
    27 Marin CILIC (CRO) [27]
    28 David NALBANDIAN (ARG) [28]
    29 Nikolay DAVYDENKO (RUS) [29]
    30 Thomaz BELLUCCI (BRA) [30]
    31 Milos RAONIC (CAN) [31]
    32 Marcos BAGHDATIS (CYP) [32]

...and Ranked number 24 Del Potro.....

Roddick being ranked 8th could really protect him into the 4th round....and then in the 4th round he'd have to play one of these guys:

    9 Gael MONFILS (FRA) [9]
    10 Mardy FISH (USA) [10]
    11 Jurgen MELZER (AUT) [11]
    12 Jo-Wilfried TSONGA (FRA) [12]
    13 Viktor TROICKI (SRB) [13]
    14 Stanislas WAWRINKA (SUI) [14]
    15 Gilles SIMON (FRA) [15]
    16 Nicolas ALMAGRO (ESP) [16]

rather then someone in the top 8......

Being ranked 8th should help AR get to the QF's.....and when you get that deep you are a win or two from something special

Hmmm...conflicting info from news websites, seems like it might be Murray/Nadal and Fed/Djoko halves...

Raonic's seeding is surprising, I figured he'd be 5-10 spots higher.

But a 3rd round Raonic v Roddick woukd be a helluva match.

Why did Gasquet get shafted in the seedings? Apparently they forgot he reached the SF in 07 and choked away a 2 set lead against their darling Murray in the 4th round in 08. Guy's best surface is grass.
