Amazing how quickly they've recovered.
for once a rainy summer is actually a blessing
Stil can't wrap my head around it, we're not supposed to be back at Wimbledon so soon, it seems so....wrong!
Wimby grass looking good will win Wimbledon
Oh man this is really bad news! How is Nadal supposed to play in those conditions? Can he at least get a late start so that there are at least some patches of dirt before he starts playing?
I don't know why people were worried about this. It doesn't take a year to grow grass.
I don't like the light purple London 2012 look.
Better get used to it mate - it's all over Wimbledon.
Nadal has the 4th best winning percentage at Wimbledon in the open era (85.71%) behind Pete Sampras (3rd), Federer (2nd) and Borg (1st). Nadal will be fine.
Maybe if they puts load of ads to cover it up.....it will be more manageable to see. It looks plain with just London 2012 on it which is very Wimbledon like. There is still some weeks left....so it could be different at the start of the event hopefully.
Got tickets Batz?
Made it to Wimbledon a couple of times this year, I had an opportunity to a get a ticket for this too but I'm sort of underwhelmed by the entire thing, not sure why...
No no no no, people (NSK and his other accounts) were worried that the grass will recover and it will be 1st week of Wimbledon all over again for Nadal.
Looks like blue clay to me
Does that mean Federer is going to win.
slightly random but.....
i know that wimbledon's color is green (grass), white (dress code), and purple (the circle around the logo), and green/purple has been the color of the towels.
apparently, they've unwittingly supported LGBT rights too! since the green/purple/white combo specifically is in support of genderqueer. no wonder they support equal prize money.
makes me love wimbledon a bit more kinda.
Lucky boy - I had middle Saturday.
No mate - I didn't even try for tickets to be honest - I'm off to Tenerife on Friday anyway for some R & R. The poster Prince Moron has final tickets - 275 quid a pop I think he paid
Well, old Federer is old so we never know how his back will be doing. He should do well if he recovers in time.
Didn't prevent him from reaching 5 Wimbledon finals, winning 2 of them.
need them to work on my yard
Yeah true. Nadal has had plenty of scares that went to 5 sets in 06,07,10 and 12.
Sad thing is Olympics is best of three till the finals. Nadal needs to be on his heels.....it is much easier to stay in hot form for his opponent for 2 sets. If the grass is not worn out like the first week of Wimbledon....things can get even more difficult for Nadal.
Nadal did not play well in Halle and Wimbledon. If he can lift his game a little bit more....he can defintly make it to the semis where he can get to his top ability by then.
Êxactly. I mean Nadal had plenty of time now to regroup and focus on the Olympics. No excuses for another early exit.
Still he should reach at least the semis there, though i see him as the second favorite behind Federer.
poast of the day.
Then why does Wimbledon usually start seeding the grass in August/September the year before for the following year's Wimbledon tournament which is in June/July? That means it normally takes them 10 months to grow the grass courts back into playing shape. How they were able to grow it back this time in only 2 weeks is bizarre and beyond me.
Same way that Nadal was totally out of energy by 4th and 5th set in 2005 Miami finals but then had no problems going to 5 in 2005 Rome finals or having long 4 setters in 2005 FO only a few months later.
is it even the same kind of grass as the one used a fortnight or so ago?
or at least a kind of grass that gives the same kind of traction, bounce, and speed?
or something completely different or somewhat different, as long as it's grass and it grows in time for the olympics?
also, if they give the grass some steroids (or whatever hell one gives grass so that it'll grow quickly) how will it effect the players playing on them? will we see the rise of a new breed of mutant tennis players?
They've done it for the last 3 years as practice for the OG - they use pre-germinated seed.
Makes up for the sh**y thread I made earlier on.
Nadal prays he doesn't get Kohlscrieber or Lopez!
Brush those haters off lol.
The grass is just pre germinated and added, not grown through. It will look good for 24 hours then come straight out so the courts will be back to as the were. Just a cosmetic job, but of course the courts were absolutely fine in the last week anyway.
The only reason is for the cameras. No effect on playability at all. It is as the first week is compressed into a day. I guess the courts will have recovered slightly, but 20 days is not the same as 10 months.
this is from Rob Koenig :
Main court? Not so good isnt it?
Nadal only/sometimes loses when he's injured. Apparently he's injured but he can still pull it off unless he loses.
Looks like Wimbledon after 4 or 5 days of play
That's one of the outside courts, 4 or 5 I think...Wonder how centre looks...
it seemingly does at my house.
I'm sure that makes Nadal very happy to see that.
