Capra from Duke looking mighty impressive. She is my pick to make the finals from the right side of the bracket.

Can Mallory Burdette make it into the Final ?

Who saids Mallory isn't in top physical condition ? She takes down the phenom B Capra of Duke today 6-3 6-2. Power tennis all the way. most of the points were won with clean winners from both players. Burdette just was on a mission. Looked like Lindsey Davenport when she won Wimbledon.

    Florida 4 UCLA 0

Here are some brief video clips from the Florida/UCLA Championship Match

Alex Cercone hits an ace on match point to give Florida the doubles point and the early 1-0 lead.

Match point at #5 singles for Alex Cercone to put Florida up 2-0.

Match point at #4 singles for Sofie Oyen to put Florida up 3-0.

UCLA's Robin Anderson serving for the 1st set against Florida's Allie Will. Will would get the break.

Lauren Embree serves for the match at #2 singles to cap off the 4-0 shutout of UCLA.

Trophy presentation to UCLA and Florida including speech by UCLA coach Stella Sampras Webster and a few words from Florida coach Roland Thornqvist

    All Stanford Final

Didn't win the team championships but Stanford may have had the best players in division 1. Nicole Gibbs was all around best player in NCAA all year long. and Mallory Burdette, one of the top 5 players in NCAA.
Nicole Gibbs vs Mallory Burdette in the finals. Way to go girls.

Also Burdette and Gibbs in the Finals of doubles too.

All the top teams are bringing just about everyone back next year Feddie, including a duke team that will lose no one this offseason and only number 5 Clayton next offseason...two time defending champs UF who only lose one middle of the lineup player looking pretty darn good also

But sure Stanford will be in the title hunt mix as usual next year

Krista is gonna be a real factor, somewhat like M.Frank on the men's side.. but don't be surprise if you lose Gibbs and/or Burdette to pros.. if everyone comes back ,I must agree with you on this one feddie...

Kristie Ahn out leaves a big hole in the lineup. Had she been able to walk on the court last year in the finals, I have a feeling Stanford would have beaten Florida. I have the same feeling about this year if she could have gotten on court.

Duke apparently only had 5 players available but IU won 4 singles.

yep, duke is down three starters from last year's team, one suspension and two season ending injuries

they'll be lucky to win a handful of matches the rest of the season giving away one dubs and one singles before the balls are even opened every time out

but that win looks impressive for now - will not look impressive by the end of the season

She would be a nice filler if she gets her game back, she had been Top 100 in the nation at one point in juniors so not completely lacking, they should have found one of their club players to jump in since they have a solid club team.
Amazing though that Duke is down so much on players to need a walk on

She can run, she's not overweight, she probably tries hard...wow she's half way to being an all american in d1 womens tennis. Jamie was smart to put out a posting on campus.

Smart ??? Why wait till you are down to five to begin your search ? He knew before the season started in January he was one injury away. On top of that, the player who tore her ACL hadn't been able to play in the fall as she was recovering from wrist surgery.
Sorry that does not fit my definition of smart.

Even January recruits and spring recruits (quarter system) require months of recruiting and NCAA clearing before the school term starts. This is actually the best solution next to taking a walk on from the club team.

Exactly. It's actually a good find at the last minute. She's a senior and done with soccer training, she's in shape from soccer, she was top 100-200 in the country.

If she wins, it's a bonus. If she loses, it's no different than forfeiting the line. Win-win under the circumstances.

Girls team don't usually bring in January kids like the men do, especially at Duke where they are all American players. What else does he do? Women's tennis is awful. Now they at least have a shot to win the dubs pt. Throw her at 3 with one of the good ranked girls (take your pick), put balls, and let the other girl work. I saw a similar situation in a major tennis conference for girls with a lax player or something with some usta experience and she made all conference in doubles...and no this was not all conference at podunk U for the deaf and blind.

Yes, I would say Duke has a shot to win the doubles point, because they won the doubles point against Indiana without fielding a #3 team. They also have a shot in singles, based on winning all five first sets against Indiana. Losing all five second sets is a mystery. I think that match looks more like a fluke than an omen for the rest of the season.

Lady Cardinal was very tired from the tough match with UCLA in which they kicked butt in. If they meet again in NCAA tournament, Trojans don't have a prayer. Every girl in Stanford squad are good enough to be top 5 ranked player in NCAA D1. except Natalie.

let's say I agree with you... so why are they struggling ? struggling at UCLA and losing at USC ... all those girls looked washed up and out of touch with their tennis ... if you are good ,you just find ways to win ..

That's because they have been thru very stressful weeks of exams and studying. They will be much better prepared when time comes for NCAA tournament.
